lightning
A tornado came in and blew trees down on both sides of me leaving me stranded in the wilderness. Oh and the lightning moved in over the top of me and I couldn't leave. |

Every photo I take on this Island is dangerous!!! Everything moves, bites, stings, pinches, sucks or anything else you can think of. But my most dangerous pictures I take are probably of all the snakes, or of all the particulay scary looking spiders. I have this habit that when I am behind a camera I feel like nothing will hurt me no matter how close I get!! Then when I look at the photo later I think "wow did I really get that close??? How come I can't do that when I don't have a camera!! How come I didn't get bitten, or EATEN!!!"
Does anyone else feel that way??? That they are invincible behind a camera? |

Tarantula hawk. Most painful sting of any bug in North America.

Unseen until I stepped within one inch of this rattler's head while alone in the desert.
Though non-venomous, this 6 foot long gopher snake lunged at me numerous times when I blocked its path to take its pictures.
Chased this insect to take numerous closeup macro shots from about 1 inch away. Later found out it is a Tarantula Hawk having the most painful sting of any insect in North America.

Not terribly dangerous for me, but a bit iffy for my equipment. Was balancing on a rock in the middle of the stream, with a tripod, and futzing with neutral density filters to blur the water... |

Ever try driving a twisty country road and taking motion blur shots?

It's a little known fact that lizards in general, chameleons in particular, are mean drunks. I barely escaped with my life!

This was one of a series of shots in which I was trying to come up with an entry for the Candid challenge...Remember: "Drop your fear of candids..."? Well, I didn't drop my fear, I simply ignored it and kept trying to surreptiously take pics of a rowdy, beer drinking gang while acting like I was taking pictures of a Mexican band.
They noticed me and kept watching me with uneasy glances and suddenly one of them took the plunge and leaned around one of his friends, looked directly at me and displayed this sign.
I'd like to know what it means, if anything. It was a crowd of Latinos, the majority, I believe were illegal aliens.
My first thought was that enough is enough and I'd better leave, but instead, I immediately zoomed in for a tight shot of the sign with his face in the background. I guess the fact that I didn't pee my pants and run like I was up to no good made them feel that they had no reason to be concerned.

Well over 30 Iraqis shooting full on at me while hiding in a ditch waiting for Apaches to show up. Like a Dill Hole I stood up and snapped a couple frames to everybodies amazement. It stunned the Iraqis just long enough to not shoot my head off. There was a reason for the photo but I can't go into to that. Nor can I show you the photo it was taken by the boys in civilian clothes with the funny haircuts. All I know Is I should have kept the turd I dropped that day. This was during Gulf Storm |

I've had a couple episodes that come to mind.
The first being the bear pics I took - from only 30 yrds afway from a momma and her cubs.
Momma got a little upset and grumbled at me.
Then there was the 'gotta get a better angle on this water fall' shot In which I ended up breaking through the ice and into the freezing river waters...up to my arm pits - holding the camera up high so it wouldn't get ruined. Took me three tries and several minutes to climb out with one arm raised in the air. This is the infamous hole I made...yes, I was nuts enough to take a pic of the hole while freezing cold soaked to the skin.
Now if I could just find that mt. lion that was in the back yard last summer.......

The abandoned Augusta Military Academy. This particular shot wasn't dangerous, but there were some parts that were seriously dark. There was panelling from an old office laying in the walk way with nails sticking up. There was broken glass all over the place. The building is padlocked, we got the keys from the caretake, but we still weren't completely sure we were alone in there. There were a couple of windows on the first floor or basement where someone could climb through pretty easily. |

Ignoring the warnings. Yea. I'd say it wasn't too safe. Rewarded though by the photo. It really tells a story... Nice job.

As the train trunddled past at about 25-30mph I was about 24 inces way from it as there was a steep bank falling away from the edge of the track.

Thats the opinion my wife had but then at one point I had made $500 from she quit complaining. So I figure I'm worth < $500 . Those snakes would make my heart beat harder than any storm. The differance is the storm would kill you and more than likly the snake bite would just make you wish you were dead.

It either means you have 4 seconds to live, or he is asking you to bring them 4 copies of the photos.
