You know, there are some good abstracts in the gallery.
But why are there candids of people. Those are not abstracts! Come on people, abstract means just what it sounds like...

Definition 1= Art that departs significantly from natural appearances. Forms are modified or changed to varying degrees in order to emphasize certain qualities or content. Recognizable references to original appearances may be slight. The term is also used to describe art that is nonrepresentational.

Definition 2=Not realistic, though the intention is often based on an actual subject, place, or feeling. Pure abstracion can be interpreted as any art in which the depiction of real objects has been entirely discarded and whose aesthetic content is expressed in a formal pattern or structure of shapes, lines and colors. When the representation of real objects is completely absent, such art may be called non-objective.

Some samples of what I found in the gallery are these.

And the challenge rules reflect precisely on the definition.

Candids, long shots, wide shots are typically not good for abstracts. Come on contestants, make sure you submit something that is within the definition, because I for one will not be kind, or merciful.

I've been drinking.

After being thoroughly disappointed with my Best of to the point of yanking it, then being disappointed with Free Study, Off Center and Blue...I am really excited about Abstract and hope I do better. I wracked my brain over this one - a subject I love - and just struck out until this afternoon. So after almost 60 shots of 5 different subjects I entered one.

Let the games begin...
