I second the "write-up" idea. I may be mediocre as a photographer but apparently I'm really lousy at editing. :-) |

I really have no clue what I've done with the fish, so I'm sorry, I don't think that'll work for this photo ;) |

A couple personal favorites of mine. Recently sold a print of the first one for $200... my highest sale price for a single print so far. :)

Before... After...
Someone else took the picture, but everyone liked the looks on their faces, so I has a go at it with the clone too and some cutting and pasting.

I guess the eventual truth would come out but I've carried the burden of guilt for this long enough.
This is an image I post processed for Gary Kapluggin (Kiwiness)...

I'm sorry Gary, I had to tell... my therapist said it is the first step toward my full recovery.

I really blew this shot, but wanted to see what I could salvage. Yes, the oval is a bit dated.... Just trying some possiblities.

Mandy - I think this qualifies as a "really bad photo."
stdavidson, I'd believe you, except for the eyes. ;-)

I'm really amazed seeing what can you do with post processing! I'm moving my first steps into digital photography, and I've never used photoshop, so I missed the "learning curve" that would have brought me into a slow process of try&learn. Now I have photoshop cs and a good thick manual, but I find it very difficult to understand what kind of processing may a picture need, and how to manage properly all the tools available. I'd love to read full explainations of how you post processed your pictures, and any suggestions on how I can learn at least the main tools in PS are welcome. Thank you very much! |

Okay:
1. Leveled horizon with "Rotate/arbitrary"
2. Used healing brush to remove all the sensor gunk (yes I've cleaned it now, thanks for asking)
3. Used "magic wand" tool at tolerance 24 to select the sky, saved the selection in "selection/save selection"
4. Did separate hue/saturation adjustment layers for sky and everything-else, dramatically bumping up saturation.
5. Did a levels adjustment layer to deepen/intensify tonalities and contrast
5A. (forgot this step) added a blue-to-transparent gradient on a new, empty layer witht he sky selection loaded
6. Did a save-as new filename and flattened the saved-as image
7. Used the "Gothic Glow" action (downloadable free from the web) to produce the richened, glowing tonalities
8. Copied the resultant image and pasted it into the reopened original image underneath the adjustment layers
9. Adjusted the opacity of the adjustment layers and the glow layer to get the final result.
Something like that anyway, I don't know if this makes any sense to you :-)

Nice Chihuly. The Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus Ohio has a disply almost identical to this one. The only difference is that Chihuly's "signature" cherub is at the very edge. Were there more pieces in the exhibit? (Sorry to go off topic.) |

I have a ton of this kind of stuff. Which really only means I need to get better at taking photos so that I don't have to rely on photoshop so much. But whatever. :-) This is just one that I've had posted in my portfolio for a while.

That is exactly what I want. That is awesome. I cannot even believe my eyes on this one. Maybe a good lens should be in my future. Thanks for posting.

You've improved the color no end, but I absolutely LOVE the BG in the original, and strongly dislike the vignetted oavl. I imagine that's what pleased the customer, though :-)

I completely disagree. The After shot of your mother to be is fantastic and the faded/blended background conveys a dream, just like motherhood should be. The crumpled background of the original has negative connotations and draws away from her, which should be the focal point. Good job.

Well, the one is "art" and the other is "professional"... It's a matter of taste. I never said the vignetting wasn't well done (it is), and I did say I'm sure the customer liked it...
