I paid just a little over $2 in income tax one year with pennies. |

Don't feel bad. They got me too. Another place got me too, but at least they gave me reasons for liking my picture that made me think someone actually looked at it. |

My other half cancelled a credit card a long time ago. It ended up in 3 cents credit due to their error (Australia has no 1 or 2 cent pieces any more - don't ask just accept it ok, cheque or credit works in cents but cash is multiples of 5) - they sent a statement - as required due to the credit balance - for years and years and years. Biggest waste of money I have ever seen :-) |

I wanted to see for myself if picture.com is a scam. I took a photo of a plain piece of white A4 paper (it came out a nice shade of medium grey), stuck a black border on and submitted it. Lets see if they print that in a book :) |

I first heard of picture.com a few years ago when I was living in Mount Isa QLD ( Australia). There was a story on the front page of the local rag about a Mount Isan woman who had won a prestigious photography award. It showed her winning photo and included an interview whith the excited winner. Yes you guessed it, it was entered on picture.com. I went onto the site and entered a photo which also won! What are the odds?? I feel soooo sorry for the poor woman on the front page. How embarassing hey!!? |

Nice lol I wish there was a way to vote for it. I'd give it a 10! (even if your horizon is slighly angled) ;)
here it is
I too have a couple images on there and did buy the first book...hey it's thick, it makes a good door stop. |

Some lady in Detroit got her power shut off a couple months ago for being 1 cent short on her payment. |

Sombody somewhere mentioned that you used to be able to tape the reply paid to a phone book (thereby getting rid of two bits of junk in one go) and they were charged for the return postage - not sure if the post office will take that now, if they ever did, but I liked the idea.
Never heard of them but it's just another scam that is all too common in every other area, so why not. |
I like the brick idea, but what I usually do is take all the envelopes I get and all the stuff, remove anything with my information on it and send the stuff from Company A to Company B and the stuff from Company B to Company C and the stuff from C, goes to A.
I don't fold things up too neatly and sometimes just wad it up in a ball, shove it in and wrap it in tape. The automatic mail opening machine love staples too, so I'll add a couple of those too. I'd send them treats from the cat's litterbox too if I thought I could get away with it.

You can visit this site for info on opting out of receiving pre-approved snailmail credit card offers. Also, I think I've heard that the companies don't really care/know if you send back heavy stuff with their prepaid envelopes.

Yes, but that title is a bit too artistic. It implies there's meaning to the photo. Might even end up in the museum of modern art.
If you could channge the name, I would just call it "Untitled."
(I thought about "Foggy Day" but that too has meaning.)

Nope, but I'm sure the postal workers that have to lug the stupid things around surely do. (sorry, pops is a postal worker, gotta give him props for having to deal with other peoples silliness) :-)

They only pay postage on what is returned. Some may not care, but if everyone sent back the empty postage paid envelope, soon they would be out of business, or they would rethink their spamming ways...way too cost ineffective, then.

picture.com is a real spammer. They ask you to pay money for your prize.
I never heard that you need to 'purchase' your prize by paying $$
They will keep on sending one offer or other that seem comleteley useless and foolish.
Following were the offers they gave and for very offer they asked for money-
1. Medal and Pin , when you do not buy then they will send mail that offer deadline is extended LOL
2. Then they send the Invitation for international society of photographers and email with a big big words as if you are going to get Noble Prize LOL
3. They will ask for more photos to win $10000 LOL (after paying may be 20000$ for their silly offers)
4. they told that there is some big event going to happen in Las Vegas and they asked for some $600 just for the entry.
I rejected all of their offers and again tey are spamming. frustrating people.
There is lot more to be written for these spammers, but I do not want to spend time for this. |

I saved the letter I got from picture.com. It has one my photos on it. I would love to talk to a lawyer and sue them for using a picture w/o permission. I do like the picture, so I saved the letter. I laughed about it. I knew a 'real' photographer with a real working business and he sends mounted and framed prints and $100 in to some panel, and he always get's an honorable mention ribbon. He continues to do it, so for some reason he thinks it's worth it.

I was so dissapointed when my "free contests" turned into for only $70.00 you too can purchase your picture in a coffee table book and move on in the contest. Now I'm pretty sure everyone is a "semi-finalist". Not only that but I've been awarded a pin (which also I have to buy) and a plaque (which I get free with the $70 book). Not to mention for a mere $600 I can go to las vegas for a photo convention where I can stand up and talk about my photo. It just bugs me that people get sucked into these things. If it really was an award wouldn't I get it for free? |
Oh Wow, I too sent in a soccer picture of my son (Soccer Cellular Bars), which I have in my portfolio to picture.com for the same reason. Then I started getting hounded to by the book and telling me I am invited to the photo convention. As soon as they started hounding me about the book I ignored all other future mailings and e-mails because I figured it was a scam. Now I wish I hand't sent in the photo. Oh well, live and learn. At least they didn't get any money out of me. |

When I was first getting started with photography years ago I got a letter in the mail with my photo in it. My first thought was "how the hell did they get my photo!" I had posted it online to show my friends, because it actually was a pretty cool photo of Byrce Canyon with a storm rolling in.
Since it was such a cool photo and because I was still new I took the letter seriously, but didn't fall too deep. I got online and looked at their website. They were showing photos that were submitted to them and that were finalists. I specifically remember getting to a fuzzy snapshot of some kid's 1st birthday and yelling "SCAM!" Then I closed the window.
I still wonder if someone submitted my photo for me, because I never did. It was in a subdirectory of my website and not easily accessable. And on top of that my domain information for my website isn't me I don't think. I'm pretty sure it's my friend who hosts and registers it for me.
Life's mysteries.. |

I entered a song writing contest once and received a letter saying I was a semi-finalist and that I could purchase a book with my song printed in it. I thought to myself, this is just a scam. Well, several months later I got a letter saying I was the grand prize winner of a Crystal Music Award and $1,000.00. Couple weeks later I received my prize.

I was very excited when I sent this shot in
At the time I thought it was so awesome...and hey I didn't think it was a scam cause I really liked the image. Now I can see the image needs alot of improvement. Glad I didn't send any money. |

Maybe that's why I didn't get any more letters from them. I moved.
