I smile, and show them my printed portfolio. I then ask them if it really matters. No one has told me that it does. They hire on whether or not they like my work/style either way.
They also tend to hire based on how well you get on with them. If you both instantly dislike one another, what's the point? :) hehe |
THAAAAT's IT! I'm not hiring you.....(runs and hides, giggling hysterically)
Where I work now...there was an executive that used to say work experience was just as valuable as education, Tell them you have been doing this for years and that you are self taught, but with limited formal training (DPC)...then dazzle 'em w/your portfolio
...practice, practice, play, practice...
...and try to look at things differently.(try doing brain teasers...they get one thinking differently than "the same ol' way you always do)...push the envelope...you are always learning!

Everybody knows that an education is a useful thing.
Some know that an academic education is dubious asset.
Few know that the best education is to have lived.
What impresses me most is when someone demonstrates that he/she is educated by relating an experience and the lesson drawn from it anecdotally. |

I guess it depneds on what type of education. I have 4 degrees that have done nothing for me, so I have yet to find my college education useful. But all of my life lessons have proved to be quite useful! |

Why'd you resurrect this old, old, old thread? It's 2 1/2 years old, it should be able to walk and talk and feed itself by now LOL.
As an update, no one asks anymore. Yesterday I booked a wedding over the phone, tonite I shoot a senior (returning client form a pet shoot), tomorrow I meet a potential bride, and saturday I shoot 3 kids ( 6 mos, 2 yrs, 5 yrs) booked thanks to the Internet - Mom of the 6 month old found and booked me and will be in town to surprise Grandma with photos.
About to move into my new shooting space...will be there Saturday morning - I just hope the coffee holds up!
Education wise, I've joined the local PPA affiliate and attend seminars there, classes there and other workshops.
