No..I understand..and you have a good point. Nobody has more right than another to feel a certain way.

My long semi rantish comment was really more about "Join the party, We all get hammered here!"...and that is what is cool about this site.

Customers and others who know of me in business blow so much smoke up my butt everyday to get favors it is quite refreshing to come to a photo site and have somebody with a pocket camera tell me "You Suck!"

Keeps ones perspective, :-D

I pointed this site out to a couple photogs that shoot for us and they sort of looked at me like I was nuts! They are too good to be bothered with this site I guess :-( (not actually....many photogs I know are not enthusiastic about photography anymore..it's juat a job.)

ralphnev, you have to understand that people vote based on what they like. just because you like your idea doesn't mean other people will, even if they know it took you 100 hours to get the shot. you seem really excited about your new technique but at the end of the day it is a gimmick and not all that interesting. so if people don't respond to it, you should suck it up like e everyone else and stop whining. it is a little lame.

and i'm very sorry to have created such along thread (and proud to i guess ;)

I really haddn't meant this as a whine or a gripe or whatever..
I initally started the topic as a "how it was done" but people couldn't get by the 1,2,3 line
sigh ...
I was/am quite pleased that it made it over 6.0
I do think these images are beautiful wanted to share ...

I personally would have given it a 4 or 5.. Not all that interesting to me. However, I understand your pain.. been there.

In the end we have to accept what we're given though, and move on.

Actually, I couldn't get over these lines:

I reminded me of the college freshman who was unhappy with her grade on an English class writing assignment. She took her paper home over mid-term break and showed it to her high school English teacher who, get this, wrote a note to the professor saying that he would have given it an A! Different schools, different rules.

Are you asking for pity votes?
Your image is quite nice, but not a winning contest image. It is pleasing to look at, but lacks impact as someone has already mentioned. You did place well, but what really gets me pissed is that fact that you want people to score you higher for recognizing the process to get this photo. That is the most ridiculous thing ever. Just because it took a lot of thought/tests/time/McGyver like actions doesn't warrant a good score. I would of voted it around a 5. Now that I know how much efford you put in I would vote it a 5. End result is all that counts. Ask any photographer, and probably the same for you, some great shots have been set up/taken/processed all within minutes. While some shots that took long set ups and test shots just come out so so.
This is a learning community. Complaining about scores does nothing to further people's skills. As it is, I think the votes are too lenient. I wish people were brutally honest rather than being nice. I would like to see everyone handing out 1s when a picture is bad, not the 3 or 4 which is some voters lowest. If you can't handle what people vote, if your pride is too hurt, don't publically display your work.

Be glad I didn't vote on this challenge, you would not have done well with me mostly because the clolr choices make this look really cgi and suspect. First I know how shots like this can be made, several ways in fact and I dont see it as an incredible challanging shot (my try one tonight just to prove myself wrong ;) But the green on black does make it look very much computer generated hence the screen saver (not to mention the fact the image does not appear random but looks very much like a fractal) comments. I would say if your wanting to gvie a how to then dont be negitave in your comments making it sound like a rant.

actually Different schools, different image. ;)

desaturatuated images do not look as interesting
but the film ones do .. (i think it has to do with the spectral responce of the ccd/printer & film responce / printing ..)

it's something about the medium ...

I ranted on ONE line

it is random due to "inital conditions" very similar to Lorenz attractor or a double dampened pendulum

I never claimed it was difficult - and wanted to demonstrate that in fact it was fairly simple to do -

i never claimed i was the first to do it - but it was the first to use a green laser on this site .. ( i think .. i did post one on fred miranda ) so it was novel
here

I like making images that are CGI'ish with just the camera -- that is my fun with photography ... i try to do as little post processing as possible ..

I think the issue is, that people want their photo judged on it's photographic merit (style, composition, clarity, etc) and not to be voted on whether someone thinks it was a valid photo or not.

Many people have long wanted to have a pre-validate system. I myself, will in the future probably have my fiance "Request Validation" on any entries I submit that I think will be suspect.

another lesson learned . ..

Yes...you can. But you don't see the option if you click on your submission in the right hand corner. And you don't see your image as you continue thru in voting. A lot of people don't realize that if you go to the last page you will see your entry and be able to view it with the option to request DQ validation.

I was not aware of that back when I submitted my questioned entry. I think a lot of others are unaware.

ALL in all though...this is a great site, tons of fun, etc. I just want to clarify that I'm not ranting or really criticizing. Just sharing.

I think overall the site balances out better than one would expect in these regards.
