From my knowledge, you guys (the admins) are getting your prints done with EZPrints.com and they offer calendars for very cheap. :o)

That could even be one of our gift options for our own prints on DPCPrints. :o)

The first 4 prices are per page. A spiral bound, 8"x10" 12 month calendar costs about $40, not including shipping costs or tax

I would think that offset printing is the way to go. Settle on twelve pictures and make it an annual thing.

Photographers should be happy to get the publicity, I know I would be. Now all I need to do is become a better photographer.

I'm not against the calendar idea either, and I would also gladly allow any of my images that are available on the dpcprints site to be used for this purpose....

Note that with cover(s) there may be more than 12 photos. Covers can also include a montage of the images used (or even the runners-up) on the back.

If you're willing to make the actual calendar part small, you could have 1 large photo and three or four (or more if tiny) smaller ones plus the calendar on a two-page spread. The photos could all be "variations on a theme" or something.

"Regular" printing opens up many more design opportunities than photographic printing.

I love the idea. I'd be happy to donate one of my pics to a calendar if there is a demand for one (in fact, I'd be honored). I'd definitely buy at least one calendar assuming the price is reasonable. Possibly several.

Just using this thread to ask permissions - does anyone object to me using their pic to just create an idea here? Nothing serious, not to be used, just to see what comes up.

You can use one of mine if you want to

I just got this from my price quote inquiry at Shutterfly:

Calendar Volume Pricing is as follows:
12-mo / 18-mo
0-49 $19.99 / $24.99
50-99 $13.99 / $17.49 (30% off)
100-499 $11.99 / $14.99 (40% off)
500-999 $10.99 / $13.74 (45% off)
1000+ $10.00 / $12.50 (50% off)

Soooo...if we can order 101 calendars, we get them for $12 each. We can pick any 12 images we want. This is done in their layout.

I'd be interested to see what GenE can come up with for alternates to this.

Mine are completely available. And there are several that are very seasonal.

Waddaya mean you're not gonna use it for real!

Of course, use any of mine. I may work on some mock-ups for a print design as well. Those prices for 100-quantities are probably pretty competitive; offset isn't likely to be reasonable for less than 1000, but then it can start getting a lot cheaper. But it's not automated--it needs design work.

Drew, I assume you're talking about 'custom' calendars. If you could settle on 12 prints (your choice, or by vote) and do a bulk run I imagine the savings would be substantial.

I was, and I still think it's a really neat idea... just one that's probably too expensive. This idea of a single DPChallenge calendar, though, could definitely be a good one. The biggest problem we're going to have is accepting money for them and then printing them. Though we accept credit cards on DPCPrints, we actually do that through our printer and cannot sell our own products through it. I will give it some further thought, though, and discuss it with Langdon. Thank you to those who have already volunteered their photographs for the calendar -- that's all the more incentive for us to try to do this!

I have about a billion more ideas on this, so raise the objections and I'll see what I can find out. This is an idea I'd REALLY like to see, so I'll do as much as I can later on it. (heading out now boo hoo)

If I have anything salvageable, then by all means use whatever you want of mine.

I'd be happy to have someone else looking at it for a whole month
