BTW, Christian jihadist is such a moronic misuse of either word that it really reflects poorly on your arguement. Such intolerant bigotry as expressed in your post is truly sad. |
Wow, you take such offense you must relate to this a bit I think.
I am saying that the far right wing that wants to "Christianize for our protection" the government of the U.S. are the "jihadist's".
The definition of "Christian" is a religious person who believes Jesus is the Christ and who is a member of a Christian denomination
The definition of "Jihad" is an Arabic word which comes from the Arabic root word "jahada", which means "exerting utmost effort" or "to strive". The word connotes a wide range of meanings, from an inward spiritual struggle to attain perfect faith, to holy war."
Now, how is my referral to the christian zealots on the far right as "Christian Jihadist's" incorrect? They certainly profess being christians and their behaviour is just as zealous and unforgiving as the muslim counterparts of jihad.
I stand by my statement.

Only if you identify with the statement.
Scott, I appreciate your attention to the arguments in the thread. Without you we'd all be sitting around like a bunch of bobbing-head dolls. These are important and complex issues...we need all sides of the story. Is there anything we agree on yet? |
To complete the quote from muckpond:
Originally posted by muckpond: don't for a second fool yourself that a civil union is just a $50 legal software program away. the fact that some think so is evidence of how dense people are. |
Since I was the one who made the comment about "$50 legal software program" - even though it was applied out of context here - it didn't seem a huge leap to presume the "dense" part was aimed at me. But that's OK.
I'm not certain I understand the middle part of your post. But then, there is that "dense" thing.
And as far as agreement, I bet there are lots of things we agree on. But, to paraphrase James Prager, I'd prefer clarity over agreement. |

And youth should question, rebel, dispute what they are told and be as ideological as possible! It's called developing their own minds and forming their own opinions.

I'm well beyond "youth" and still do all those things...maybe that's what keeps my mind young while the rest all goes to pot...

I stand by my statement. |
From Dictionary.com:
ji·had also je·had
n.
1. A Muslim holy war or spiritual struggle against infidels.
From Wikipedia.com:
Jihad is an Islamic term, from the Arabic root jhd ("to exert utmost effort, to strive, struggle"), which connotes a wide range of meanings: anything from an inward spiritual struggle to attain perfect faith to a political or military struggle to further the Islamic cause. The term is frequently mistranslated to mean "holy war" in English, although jihad can apply to warfare.
So your usage (which, of course, I know did not originate with you) equates to "Christians [i.e. believers in or followers of Christ] who are in a Muslim holy war against infidels" - which, as it turns out, are themselves; or "Christians in a political or military struggle to further the Islamic cause" - to which they are diametrically opposed.
Makes no sense. But you're welcome to stand there all day. :)

True. I just think it's sad....that if you don't have some kind of religion/spirituality in your life it's not much of a life. I have yet to meet a truly happy agnostic. :/
