This isn't about photography at all, but I'm so mad I could scream!
Anyone who doesn't want the next Harry Potter book ruined, please avoid all media publicity about the book this week. Suffice it to say that someone got a hold of the book early and has been spilling plot details all over the place. The Associated Press picked up a story about it, so it's EVERYWHERE. Rowling and company are suing because they spent millions to avoid this very thing.
If you are interested in things being a surprise, don't even read the headlines or the lead paragraph. Don't even open the article at all. They're making it very difficult to avoid finding out something major about the next book.
Maybe it's just me... am I the only one who wants to READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS IN IT?!?!?!
Argh.
Anyway, so I'm doing my part to counteract this, and let you guys know to avoid news items about the new book until after you've read it... unless that doesn't bother you, knowing what's going to happen before you experience it for yourself.
Which brings me to movie trailers that give away the entire movie, but that's a totally different rant.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled photography discussions... just wanted SOMEONE to enjoy the book with no idea what will happen in it.

The wizard kid gets older and isn't cute enough to be in movies anymore and turns to drugs, violence and theft (a.k.a MacCauly Caulkin syndrome).
Hope i didn't ruin it for everyone!!

Sorry, I don't read books that aren't in Oprah's book club. I only read what she tells me to read.

As to what Jak wrote wrote which I purposely don't quote...
Isn't this defeating the purpose of the thread? Could it have been possible that some people did not know about the major plot point you just revealed but now even for those few that didn't know, it has been spoiled?
Perhaps you should edit this plot revelation out of the message?

Why would I edit out something the author herself chose to reveal in a publicly available interview? Sorry, I don't understand.

Didn't mean to sound harsh... I meant that some people did not hear of the public revelation or announcement and perhaps would not even want to know that detail... but if it is that widespread, it won't make a difference anyway I suppose...
Some people care about these things, others don't...but as an analogy.. I was reading a series at one point, I believe [CENSORED]'s [CENSORED] series... a similar situation where a [CENSORED] [CENSORED] in the [CENSORED]... it wasn't hard to run into this spoiler whether I liked it or not, ie, book reviews, etc...
Point is, all I knew is that a [CENSORED] in the [CENSORED]. Since many good authors tend to foreshadow, with subtlety of course, many events like this, it was becoming apparent exactly what character was going to [CENSORED]....
And when it did happen, it definitely made the event thoroughly less enjoyable than had I not known about it... All this just to mention that there could be fans who have actually steered clear of this revelation somehow might not want to accidentally see it elsewhere... All if know is that I were a fan, I wouldn't have condoned that news article to begin with :)
That's about all I was trying to say,
Dave

Thanks, sylandrix, that's a much calmer reaction than I originally had to the revelation Jak had displayed before, and thank you very much, Jak, for removing it. Even if it is the author talking about it herself, which seems kind of lame considering the shroud of secrecy supposedly over the plot, there are people like me who really don't want to be told anything ahead of time. Not even by the author.
There was a movie a few years back in which there was a major plot twist at the end. We went and saw it the first weekend, before the fact that there even WAS a twist had been revealed to the world. I guarantee we liked the movie 10x better than someone who either knew there was a twist or knew what it was. I was so glad not to have known anything in advance -- made it all truly a surprise.
Maybe some people aren't that way. Maybe they like reading the TV Guide articles that tell every "surprise" plot point of the fall season. I'd just like to have the *option* to experience it without commentary or spoilers in advance. |

I edited nothing, and yet my post has been deleted. That seems very Orwellian to me, especially as it makes the rest ofg this thread almost meaningless. Who is conducting censorship here?

When you wake up in the cage with the rats gnawing at your nose, lets us know and we'll start thinking its Orwellian too.
I don't know that your thread really stops this entire thread being meaningless, but it seems to have spawned further meaningless threads too now. Any chance someone will find a sense of proportion lying around ? I think we've lost it. |

I wasn't joking. I've just started that series. I didn't know anything about the plot until I read that post.

take heart, you don't know which character. I thought you might have been joking as we all need a little humour around here, but as you were not, you have to get through thousands of pages before you will encounter that plot twist, and by then you will be so engrossed it will still blindside you!

Just don't tell me how this threads ends. I'm glued to the Refresh button. It's getting good!
I wonder if Gordon will take responsibility for Carolee's unborn baby and if her lawyer really is a transvestite!

I'm taking Sylandrix to court for ruining my Wheel of Time experience! I have rights too - he's caused emotional damage! We've switched channels to 'the practice'

Oh my god, I did exactly what I told Jak not to do... I am so sorry!!!
Maybe If I'm lucky you'll get tired of the books before you get anywhere near the middle :)
Besides, there's always many, many surprises in the series, most of them were ruined for me, just don't visit ANY place on the net that deals with Wheel of Time and you should be ok :)

As any Wheel of Time fan knows, there are so many twists and turns in the series that they will always keep you thoroughly entertained if you can get through reading it all, which I found very trying (I still have not read the last two books in the series)...
Gordon, I myself had that surprise totally ruined but I still enjoyed the series so much that it made up for it... hope you can enjoy the rest too :)
I had no idea other photographers like reading large fantasy sagas :),
Sorry!,
Dave

This sounds like a flimsy excuse out of marrying Sonifo. She loves you man! But your excuses are lame and you deserve the wet noodle treatment. Besides, I heard Frisca has the hots for you.
