Hi all :D I've been asked to participate in a mini trade show. Basically it's a show where professionals in the Architecture and Interior Design business show and sell products of their hobbies. There are only 15 spots and I was lucky enough to be invited. I'm not sure how to go about doing this as I have never participated in such an event.

How much should I charge? What should my setup be? I have an 8'x10' "booth" so they say. I'm thinking making 5x7 and 8x10 prints of what I have and sell them (no frame but with matte). How about the price? I'm also thinking of maybe 2 pieces at 16x20 matted and framed to sell. Again, how much is a reasonable price?

Any experience here? The event is on November 3rd and I just found out last Friday morning. Is there enough time to prepare? I have to let them know by Wednesday if I'm interested in participating.

Any advise would be great.

Which of these do you think I should blow up (keeping in mind that the target market are architects and interior designers)?

Architects and Interior Designers are a tough sell when it comes to art, any kind of art. To be frank, I don't see any of those images being of great interest toi this market except "Solitude", which is very nice. This market loves crisp, well-rendered images of the built environment. They also like vast, moving landscapes a lot. Flower shots need to have that something extra, compositionally, they need to be edgier and show more visible grace.

These are just my comments based on what people like that used to buy from me. Take 'em with a grain of salt.

These strike me as having potential for sales, from your portfolio:

I wouldn't sell anything smaller than 8 1/2 x 11, and I'd have at least some 16 x 20 images. That's paper size, not image size. I float my images in the paper. My smallest actual image size is 6x9 or so. I'd run 11x14 in a 16x20 paper, something like that. Matted and unframed? 50 bucks up to 125 bucks depending on size, for starters. Really big brints, more; but it doesn't sound like you're going that direction.

People in the design trades don't respect cheap prices, really. If you don't think your work is worth the more moderate prices (let alone really decent prices) then they're not gonna buy it anyway, is my gut feeling.

So yesterday was the big show. It was fun and educational at the same time and most importantly, I sold some photos! Wooohoo! $500 +/- as a matter of fact :) I might just have enought o buy that stinking 10-22mm I've been lusting for the longest time.

I sold large prints of Solitude and of Fathers and Sons

The most was for Solitude fetching $225 for a 12x18 matted and framed on a 20x24 frame.

The rest of the items were of Streamline, Precious, and Jolly Boat

But even more importantly, I have just received three commissions to do a family portrait, an engagement portrait and a baby portrait. I've never done this before.

How much should I charge and when it comes to print packages, where do I send it to? I believe the baby shoot is looking for wallet sizes and the whole mix (think school photos).

Thanks for all the help especially to Robert.

Wow, Rikki, that's very cool! I was standing right next to you when you took that Fathers and Sons shot - it came out great! Let me know how that new lens works out. :-)

Thanks guys! Yeah it turned out to be one of my good photos Philip. I was lucky enough to get the right lighting on that image. Would you believe, no post processing for that image??? Talk about luck especially since both our cameras got soaked just hours before that :)
