I don't want to get in the middle of the melee, so I left my comment on the image. Good luck to you. :-) |

Hey, if you are talking to me you need to get this right. I am saying don't be so negative! I am supporting the photographer!

Originally posted by wavelength: Your later posts did get a little heated though, I think you'd have to admit. And to a Christian, some things you said were offensive (after your first post). Saying something like "I hate religion" kind of goes towards the "offensive" end of the spectum of conversation don't you think? To religious people, that's tantamount to saying "I hate you." |
I wasn't heated at all. If I was I'm sure it would have been a lot worse. As for me saying "I hate religion" is NOT like saying I hate religious people as an example, my sister has a christrian ministry and web site which is sponsered by me, my best friend and his family are jehoviah's witness and I do a lot for them and their community but they ALL know if you put it out there for an opinion I'm gonna give it to you which is what I did here. People will always disagree but if you don't want opposite opinions then don't ask. You gotta take the good with the bad.

This my friend is your statement. Yes I can read a whole statement. Are you aware of what you write? |
Using those words in sentence is a question to the photographer even without a question mark at the end. What is your problem?
If someone gave me that comment I'd just tell why I did that. I would assume that Dave is quite able to do just that.

A question without a question mark is a rhetorical question.
A rhetorical question is one asked solely to produce an effect (especially to make an assertion) rather than to elicit a reply.

Meanwhile,,,,,,,,some poor schmuck awaits constructive criticism about a photo.
Stated succinctly, I would tend to agree with the comments expressed by both Ralphnev and Notonline regarding the photo... and yes that is solely MY opinion.
Happy shooting....

Yes, maybe so, but so often I read about this community being supportive, helpful and a great place to learn about photography? I like that. I was only concerned that the comments were all negative.

so we should suger coat the hammer before hitting them ??
the image in question had OBVIOUS problems - stating them simply without the suger coating is the way to get the message across .. without worrying about the self esteem of the photographer
photographer can take resonably good images - his portfolio shows it - but there is room for improvement -
& azoychka - i still havent seen your comment on the picture

What constructive purpose does a hammer serve?

Hammers are quite popular in the construction trades despite the growing popularity of air nailers.

Why was there such a negative response to this photo? |

I'm not sure why you're still on about this, the OP certainly isn't.
The figure of Jesus is a divider, not a uniter. There's a reason Jesus said to be prepared to leave friends and family to come follow him. Many do not accept him, as you should know by now, and some find it offensive to even mention Jesus or christian anymore. Images of religious icons for some are only good when portrayed in a negative context, or in one that goes against accepted norms of the religion by some. People like images to conform to their accepted norms, if their norms are to dislike the religious, they will probably have a knee-jerk "That sucks" reaction.
That's partially why (whether people were really thinking about it or not) some took the time to malign this photo's faults without any constructive suggestions to add.
edit- or maybe it was just because it really wasn't that good, and they weren't feeling helpful. But then why post.?... dunno.

heh.. Last time I checked I think the OP hijacked his own thread. That kind of opened the door to further hijacking.

I was surprised. Normally DPers are so supportive. Guess I was surprised to see only critical comments. As for the rest.........I feel only sadness........

You don't need to say it's your opinion. If you write something, everyone will assume it's your opionion unless you specify that it was something else.
