So far I have been using a demo version of PIE to get my exif data. Other than that, i didn't use PIE for anything.
People here seem to be content with ACDSee. Could someone please tell me what the best features are of ACDSEE. I need to purchase a program real soon, like tomorrow.
Thanks.

There really should be freeware apps for your purpose, Journey. I'd do a search and see what comes up, if nothing else...

I'm on a Mac with the EXIF built into iPhoto. But there are still several functional freebies available. On the PC the choice should be larger even.

Sorry for not offering anything concrete.

ACDSee does what most do in terms of gross features.
*You can get EXIF data,
*sort by various means (EXIF date, database date, subject, etc)
*editing (through photocanvas, which I find to be a simple editing tool - I use it in place of photoshop for some simple tasks)
*acquire images from a camera, scanner, or other TWAIN device
*e-mail/file sharing
*slide shows/screen savers (with audio - nice feature)
*Printing - I really like the printer interface
*transferring images from a camera

The thing it does REALLY well IMO is speed; it loads up thumbnails and previews way faster than all the others. It also transfers photos from my CF card to my HD faster than other means as well. I'm sold on it - I've been using it about a year, and haven't found one better.

Zues is correct you can get lots of decent free stuff out there, but if you want frills, ACDSee is my choice.

Those're my two bits. Feel free to ask if you have specific questions - happy to help if I can.

If you only need EXIF data and a very simple program...get irfanview: //www.irfanview.com. It's free and works great.

As for why I like ACDSee, I got a recommendation from my uncle on it and found that the cataloguing ability and batch renaming is helpful.

Another reason, along with those already posted, is the ability to easily view my images full screen, like a slideshow, without any anoying menue bars. I just click the middle wheel on my mouse to view the image full screen and then by right clicking I can still bring up a menu that gives me options, like copying the image to a new folder. It might seem trivial but it increases my enjoyment of viewing images on my computer monitor.

I don't know what photocanvas is, but I like ACDSee's editing because it's simple to use (if less powerful than Photoshop/GIMP). Each tool is fairly self-explanatory and simple to grasp without having to go find a book on how to use it, or what the adjustments will do. Feel free to private-message or email me if you want more detailed step-by-steps, or to see images before and after I threw ACDSee at them. :->

ACDSee *is* an image editor, I was fairly sure. :-> Do you mean it's a separate program, or the 'click on the button to fix up the image' button takes you to it?

Yes, the 'editor' button takes you to it (in my version anyway). You can also add other editors to it.

ACDSee is the organisation/ database software, that comes with a version of ACDSee Fotocanvas lite which is the editing program that ACDSee launches. You can also upgrade to Fotocanvas 2.0 to do more editing.
