Most of them are, but watch out for PM's from that strikeslip guy. ;0) Apparently he'll sell his soul for favorites marks.

Hello and welcome Jodi. Any questions you may just ask, people are quite helpful around here.
And I do believe you are the first non-lentil-related newcomer in a while :) |

Hello from KenSkid....
I was new about 60 days ago. With the help of the "critics" on these forums, I've improved greatly. 20 years ago it would have taken weeks to get 10 "informed" opinions on one of your shots. With this site, you usually get 5 or 10 peers giving pointers within a few minutes of asking!
Just make sure you give YOUR opinion when asked. It will be valued greatly!
Thanks and welcome,
Kenskid
My current favorite... |

Hi Jodi,
I joined this past August and like others I feel I am learning and trying to improve with each fresh challenge. Main thing - have fun, and take photos of what you like.
p.s. - be careful of the update button during challenges - it can indeed become habit forming and increases your chance of carpel tunnel syndrome :-D

Welcome Jodi. You're only considered new for about a month. After that all gentleness ceases. ;-)
Just kidding. You'll like it here. :)

Well Jodi - it's all very well posting a 'be gentle' post, but that's not going to cut it here I'm afraid.
By all means take some priddy lil pikchuz, but stay away from our ribbons and don't get all cocky and creative and stuff coz that's just going to get you hurt. OK?
: ) |

Thankyou for the warm welcome. At last maybe ive found the help im looking for.
Well heres the story so far....I left my job of 4 years on sept 9th to concentrate on my love of Art and Photography as a PAID hobby....BIG risk But had to be done, im selling my Paintings and slowly the commissions are coming in. My aim was to work with my Paintings and continue to learn and click away with the photography until i was at least an amatuer, however word has got out about the photography and i have been asked to shoot somebodies wedding. They were going to do it themselves but they thought since i have a good camera and a very cheap price they wanted to give me the chance. Which is wonderful, But as im just a beginner i am now starting to worry.......I have bought an extra memory card to enable me to take lots and lots of shot to get the right ones. Question is.....Do you think it would be fitting to go Automatic the first time and let the camera do most of the work. As long as i get the set ups right without any distractions how do you think i fair????? Please keep your answers kind and gentle, dont dishearten me by saying something like OH MY GOD, YOURE NOT GONNA DO IT??? hehe
I felt i had to say yes, we all have to start somewhere afterall.
Looking forward to your replies, whilst biting my nails away??? ;0

I will show my work, but for constructive criticism only, just be fair is all im asking! Anyways how do i get my pictures on here????
Jodi ;) |

Hi and welcome to DPC, one of the best digital photography site on the net(IMO). I see you are not a member, as a member you can upload images to your portfolio and then link to them in the forums. As a registered user I suppose you need to host the image somewhere else on the net and then just link to it.
As far as challengees go, being a registered user you can enter open challenges and for that should really read this tutorial
it.
Have fun!!!
Michael

Welcome to DPChallenge Jodi! I'm sure you'll enjoy this site as much as me. It really does help make you a better photographer!
As for posting pictures, since you are only a registered user you can not store pictures on this site. You can register and upload photos to another site (Google search) and then put the link to your site in the forum. **The earth button above your post allows you to post links**

Hello again,
On your wedding photo shoot question:
I, not being a professional photog would use the "auto" setting on the camera. Of course I would take several quick shots of each setup. You can then edit light levels, color levels and other important aspects on Photoshop or other software.
However, my biggest tip comes from my own wedding. I remember the setup of each photo was time consuming and made me feel that I was missing all the "fun" at my wedding. So...in my opinion, you have to be fast AND good!
Good Luck,
Kenskid |
