This is the shot I made tonight that will run in tomorrow's newspaper. The exif is in the image details.

Now...

If I had to make this shot with a 4.0/5.6 lens, I would estimate that my aperture would have been f/4.5 since the focal length of the photo was 105mm. That means my shutter speed would have been around 1/160" which is normally way too slow for stop action in football.

The 70-300mm lens just isn't a great solution for night sports. I believe that if you are going to be consistently successful with sports action in high school conditions, it would be best to invest in a faster lens.

I shot my first ever football game tonight with a new camera, new lens, and no idea what I was doing lol. In fact I think it was almost half time before I realized that my ISO was still at TWO HUNDRED. lol I'm a dork.

Here's some of my pics. They're basically straight out of the camera and then batch resized.
