Went to the Sarah P. Duke Gardens this morning to take some photos. Ended up leaving with quite a few, and this one in particular. I think this may be my best nature photo yet. Let me know what you think!

Edit: Spelled "heron" wrong in the title. Sorry about that!

It's a great capture, but you've got a pronounced green cast. A slight colour correction would make it even better.

I like it. It does need some sharpening though.

The herons that I have been near to always fly off and make nasty sound at me if I get within 30 feet. Maybe I smell funny ::sniff::, guess they don't like aftershave...

Haha, maybe they didn't like the aftershave. This was the only heron I've seen up close, and it actually didn't care about the people around it. It was quite smart because the bread for the ducks and geese lured in some small catfish. Pretty smart bird!

Here's a few more shot:

Tried to take out some of the green. Thanks!

Those herons must be used to people. I can rarely get closer than 50 yards to one of them here..

The DPC photographer with a great collection of heron images is Zeusen.

I haven't seen his name in the forums lately, but his images are still up and beautiful.

I'm with you... I've scooted from tree to tree trying to hide from these things and they always know I'm there. I couldn't get close enough to get a good shot with my point and shoot, but one time I got a pretty good show. A heron took his fish and dropped it on a dock, then had trouble getting it back off the dock. He kept using his beak as a spear and slamming it through the fish and into the dock. It made a loud thud whenever he did it, but he was probably 30 yards away and it was almost dark. So no picture possibility with what I had.

Zeus has many great images there. I like chasing Egrets and Herons around whenever I get the chance. This one was taken on the Thames in Richmond, London.

They really are quite amazing to watch! I took over 100 photos of this guy. Some of the funniest were when he would snap at the geese around him, though after seeing him do that it made me a bit weary when he started walking towards me. ha

One more... There were quite a few birds around us.

Another dpc photog who comes to mind when thinking of heron shots is ellamay.

I've got several in my portfolio. This one was my first print sale and my 5th highest score ever.

But I like some of the others better.

And of course there is my very first dpc favorite, mag's (magnetic9999) 3rd place shot from the Life challenge.

A funny picture of this heron. I tried to get a good photo of it sqawking at the geese that got to close to it. And it has a set of lungs too. That's one loud bird!!!

Any suggestions on how to fix this?
