I have a job for 40 framed pics per year( 8x10 prints with 11x14 mats), for the next couple of years. There will be few, if any, duplicates. I plan to mat the shots and use basic black metal frames. Any suggested guidelines for pricing my work. The shots are primarily of the lakeshore / lighthouses / storms.

I have been selling 8x10 shots (11x14 mats with foamboard & bag - no frames) at arts and craft shows for $20/each (below what the competion has been doing).

What terms of payments would you suggest - I am thinking 30% down to buy materials and balance due with delivery.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Drake

If you are comfortable selling your work at $20 each matted, then just add another $10-15 to cover the cost of a decent black frame and sell them for $30-35.

The %30 down to buy materials is not a bad idea, and you may want to break it down into 4 separate orders, each of them about 3 months apart. That way, the purchasing costs don't get too high for any one order and that should be easier for both of you.

Also, you may be able to get a cut rate on the frames if you can afford to buy them all at once.

PS. Sign or mark your work. At those prices it's the least you can do for yourself :)

Drake, you take some outstanding pictures. It saddens me that you've priced yourself below the competition at $20 a pop. May I ask what your reasons are for this?

I am new to the selling thing... it is just a hobby. Have done about 3 Arts & Craft shows thus far, have another in mid-October. I have lot's of inventory and figure at $20/matted pic I clear about $15/each (for the 11x14's). I sell my 18x24 size for $35 each (not framed). I really enjoy taking the pictures and doing the computer work for minor enhancements etc. This way I have a outlet for my efforts vs. filling up every last square inch of wall space at home..... I make just enough to pay for my supplies and some extra for future lens's etc. Thanks for the comments.
