lol yeah, kinda took the idea from that. it's a worth 1000 book(as I learned in the forums) if you go to their website they give you images and a step by step how to. Because I'm not a theif I took my own images but I did use their step by step on how to do it. it left a little to be desired and I did kinda put my own spin on things. overall I found this to be a very edcational project...heh kinda ironic isn't it

The background (black specks) look a little busy for me...how about fading them back to see how it looks?

yeah, well you wouldn't know it but that background is a very photoshoped image of glass marbles. The black specs won't fade anymore. I understand what your saying. I personly feel that is the weakest point in the entire image is the background of the covers.
thankyou though, comments like that are a big thumbs up.

really nice overall concept but what about using a more simplified background that enhances your color scheme like: |

Very cool, and I won't beat the background thing into the ground as it has been mentioned.
Now trust me on this one; I am nowhere near PC and I would be the last to say anything as I myself enjoy satyrical musings...but the first endorsement (FKA) might bring you a little grief. Maybe Something like the Rotund Eaters Club or something like that but the Fat Kids thing for a school project might just turn some people off.
I got flamed here once for saying something (in general) about a "Women with Age" (but not in those words)... :)

That's pretty nice Joe. Book design is what I currently do to earn extra camera money, so I have some experience there (a dozen or so published to date). One observation I have is that the spine area is totally unrealistic; in order to read that horizontal type, the spine of the book would have to be as wide as the yellow, and that would be a REALLY fat book...
Try to imagine this thing folded; with normal proportions of book thickness to cover size, only the middle third (if that) of the yellow would be actually ON the spine, meaning that the yellow would wrap onto both front and back covers. Now imagine the covers with that narrow strip of yellow and the wider strip of red on the outside; looking a little awkward, I think. You can check it by cropping a clone in photoshop to just the cover dimensions, front or rear. Or are the red areas jacket flaps? I guess they must be; but then your type is too close to the fold by a lot. You need toleave quite a bit of slop to allow for inconsistent folding, and a full eight of an inch just to GET the fold. Usually we overlap the cover art a quarter inch onto the flap, and then start the type a quarter inch outside that.
Another thing: it's very rare to have vertical type on a book spine; they are almost always rotated clockwise 90 degrees. And oh, yeah; you need to capitalize "Attack" on the spine, just as it is on the front vover.
Books are fun, huh?
Robt.

You've done some good work. A few things:
I wouldn't use so many different colors for the text. Also, the yellow band looks a little wide for the content that might go in this book. How thick do you think the book would be? I'm also not sure about the girl on the back cover. The books about after school snacks and the girl is holding a butterfly. Is she going to eat it?
