Well, here we go on the autumn merry-go-round.
Panasonic & Samsung have new cameras coming out in next two months. The Panasonic FZ30 looks pretty cool, as does the 8mp 815 from Samsung...with the biggest LCD ever.
Now, Fujifilm have just announced two new cameras for August. The S5200, a 5mp camera, the upgrade for the S5000. But the interesting one is the S9000/S9500...the 9500 is the european number. This is a 9mp camera with 10.7x zoom (28-300 equivalent) a 1.8 tilting LCD. No price as yet, could be one to watch.
Steve
edit:: plus it has xD card or CF/Microdrive storage!

It also has a flip screen LCD that looks quite fantastic.. It also has a bunch of features that they didn't include on the s7000 that should have been there.
What I'm interested in is the "new" sensor they've put in it.. with 9 MP it had better be a larger sensor than the s7000 had, and one would hope it's not that SuperCCD interpolated crap.. if it is, the s9000 would be a camera to skip over. You'd be better sticking with the FZ30 or that new Samsung 3.5" LCD behemoth :)

In press release info there is no mention of th eolder interpolated CCD, says 5th generation. The S7000 was 4th with 6mp.
My old 6900z is still going strong with original battery!!
May well flog off the 300D and get the S9500 with 1.5X telephoto!!
Who knows???

Sounds exciting! For a middle range camera, I really enjoyed many features of the S5100. I still use, the video mode is amazing. The optical zoom is not bad either but the focus is a bitch to use in manual mode. Hope the S9000 will provide a faster focus mode like a ring. That would be a big improvement. Can't wait to see it and the pictures it shoots.

grandmarginal!! Dump that Nikon and come back to what we started with...Fujifilm. It's in the blood you know, it makes sense. The Fujifilm club could move on with this new technology!!

I'd have moved back to the fujifilm family.. (sold off the lousy s7000), but my Pentax is worlds above it, and, if they still have the SuperCCD as it looks like they do from what I can read on DPReview... never.

I love the way you can flip the LCD to view it from above. Great street shooting machine. ISO 80 is good.
The lens is a bit so so. No IS/VR on a 10x zoom? Also very slow at the far end. f/4.9. But the good thing is manual zoom control instead of a stupid and slow button.
No more 18mp files from a 9mp sensor, just 9mp output. Would need to see the photos to judge if the SuperCCD effects are still visible. But hey, for most printing you'd be downsizing the file so much that it might go away.
The advantage of stuff like this is that it is a lot more portable and less noticeable than carrying a big, noisy (mirror flip) dSLR with a huge IS/VR lens on it. The S9000 should have IS tough, it might be a deal braker for many. Pentax said it will have a kind of IS on all its models in the future.

LOL.. the s7000 was just as bulky and noticeable as my Pentax is.. and I bet the s9000/9500 is even bigger!
The Rebel XT is just as small as the *ist Ds.. same with D50, and probably the KM 5D.
I don't think that portability and noticeablity are huge factors... especially since some of the super-zooms are getting pretty small these days.

Uhm, yes.
I was just thinking of lugging around a D70
with a 70-200 f/2.8 VR attached. :)

Think i'm going to have a look at this.
I like my 7000 but maybe a small upgrade would be good. The range of ISO is tempting.
