I used to feel the same way about kid shots. Until I tried taking pictures of my son.

I used ot feel the same way about flags. Until i tried taking pictures of flags.

I used to feel the same way about pets. Until I tried taking pictures of my cat.

I used to feel the same way about sunsets. Until I tried taking pictures of the sun setting.

I used to feel the same way about landscapes. Until I tried taking pictures of landscapes.

I used to feel the same way about studio shots. Until I tried taking some studio shots.

I used to feel the same way about motion shots. Until I tried taking some.

I assume you didn't take many pictures prior to that karmat

karmat has put it perfectly. My entry was a flower - my first flower submission, and I like it, even if the rest of you don't (hovering around 5.0)

:-)

True, Todd. I have also learned as I take pictures of "cliche" subjects, that instead of being bored voting on them, I have a new appreciation for them, and enjoy them a lot more.

'Course, I could be weird like that.

Do you like taking pictures of cliches'?
NO, I do not like taking picture of cliches!
Will you shoot them in a house with a mouse?
No, I will not shoot them in a house with a mouse.
Not in box with a fox
Not on a train in the rain.
I do not like cliche shots, I do not like them Sam I am!

Try them you might like them.
Ok. I will try them Sam I am.

I like them same I am I would shoot them in a box with a fox
I would shoot them in a house with a mouse.
And on a train in the rain.
I like cliche' shots I like them Sam I am.
I will not cause any more pain I will rate them all high and give them all a score of 10, Sam I am. I will, I will. Watch me and you will see. I will give 10's to all cliche's.

I was just happy to use the right color flowers...
05/15/2003 05:41:34 PM · #33
I too have one of this weeks flowers with a dropping score....
Here's my excuse: I threw my back out and am basically incapacitated(sp?). I can not stand or sit for long periods of time. Even sitting at the computer is very limited :(
So flowers were close at hand, the right colors, and basically one of the things I shoot well.
There's my excuse. Now everyone go out and have pity on the flower shots.....one is mine!!

I've only recently started taking pictures of flowers, so its all new to me... keep finding more interesting ways to shoot them every time I try (even though I'm on almost my lowest score ever because of it...)

LOL, way to get the sympathy vote! Terry, in all sincerity, ouch! I've been there and I do hope your back heals soon.

Hey I figured what ever it takes...I'll try it.
On the positive side, I don't have to go to work all week and possibly next week too!
On the negative side, it is so hard to take pics with a bad back :(......or do ANYTHING!

Always can see something new in the flowers. They have been done and done again, but maybe this is the first time someone shot one or submitted...who cares. They are all different. The thing with flowers...they can be related to EVERY challenge you could possibly think of. They are just that versatile. all shapes, colors, sizes, etc.
I had an Orange Symphony Osteospermum I shot and didn't submit because of this type of thing (and I was not totally happy with it (want to get that ol' average up)).
The one thing they got me was too many hideous borders. i am not a fan of them anyway, but there was some bad ones. Sorry, my opinion on that one.

Urm, thanks for bringing this up. My eyes are getting a little sleepy going thru so many flower photos. No offense to anyone, but as someone mentioned, maybe it's nice to get away from flowers once in awhile?

I know we are supposed to rate each photo as an individual with no relation to the photo before or after it, but then again we are humans, and we have emotions and feelings. More or less, the 1st flower pic and the 100th flower pic i see is going to get different points from me, even if they are the EXACT photo! Pls tell me I'm not alone here.

that is when I know that I should take a break from it all. As with the egg challenge...I could not handle more than 5 minutes at a time. Go off do something and then come back later after the little "eggies" stopped swirling around my head like a little cartoon bluebird

I was one of the flower offenders this week, and I'd just like to apologize to you all. :) I'm still pretty new here, and hadn't realized how many there would be! I'm really kinda bummed, because I had some interesting/unusual pictures that had nothing to do with flowers, but I chose the flower pic because I liked the way it turned out. Against the advice of family and friends.

Now I pay the price.

Hmmm, if I say that my back hurts too, will y'all boost your flower scores a little in case one of them is mine? ;)

I didn't do a flower. My score is 4.2651. I thought my first submission would be my lowest score. You know, something to build on...big sigh...
Second score is worse than the first! I guess I'm trying to see how low I can go before I can go up.(I did lose quality on my web resize. Still can't figure out the best way to do it and maintain clarity.) I should have submitted a flower.

What is the difference in voting on nice looking subjects versus well done photos??

I am so tired of hearing people whine. "I don't like flower shots, I don't like black and white, I don't like the challenges, no one picks the challenge I want." grrrrrr...!!!!!! Do not vote then. Don't look at them. Don't submit. Go do something else. For pete sake stop whining!!!!!

Sonifo, I stand by the fact that everyone reserve the right to vote on any photo they wish, whether they like it or hate it (that's explains the 1's I get on my photos! LOL) Hmm, if only the ones who LIKES our photos actually vote on it, then I guess our score would be very high, considering we are only getting votes above 7 (example) and that would surely bring the percentage up, wouldn't it?

so, i suppose we will see a lot of two tone flower pictures in the next challenge.

one tone
two tone
three tone
four
i like flower pictures best of all

its just me being silly again :)

I think you should vote on any photo you wish, using any method you wish. BUT, if it is going to pain you (not you directly, you generically) to vote on flower (or kids, or sunsets, or whatever) pics, then skip those. Over the course of the past year, there has been one particular subject that comes up occassionaly that simply makes me cringe. I just do not like pictures of this. I try to vote objectively, even if there are several of "them" entered (which happened in one challenge). If I find my self not voting as objectively as possible, I try to skip it and come back later. In a challenge where there are a lot of flower entries, you may skip a lot. :-)

A cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin.
-H. L. Mencken (1880 - 1956)

I hope that while so many people are out smelling the flowers, someone is taking the time to plant some.
-Herbert Rappaport

Nobody sees a flower - really - it is so small it takes time - we haven't time - and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time.
-Georgia O'Keeffe (1887 - 1986)

To see a world in a Grain of Sand,
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
-William Blake (1757 - 1827)

He is happiest who hath power to gather wisdom from a flower.
-Mary Howitt

Flowers are the sweetest things God ever made and forgot to put a soul into.
-Henry Ward Beecher (1813 - 1887)

For man, as for flower and beast and bird, the supreme triumph is to be most vividly, most perfectly alive.

I just had a great idea for a challenge - a "No Flowers" challenge! Hey, nothing against flowers, I love flowers and they are one of my favorite subjects. Sometimes I vote them a little lower because it's never hard to submit a flower photo. However, I would rather push my own envelope a little and submit something risky rather than submit a flower because I know it will get a better score. How are we ever going to learn? Not by submitting the same subjects every time! Maybe some people don't like to be challenged!
