I just got my first request for verification. Cool, as i am legal!! (wel, nothing is certain until the ruling comes down, now is it?)
For anyone else whom has had this happen to them, sicne i have many comments questioning my work (so probably 10 times more think the same but did not say so) - does one score change after a pic is validated?
I know we are instructed to 'vote as if it were legal', but since winning shots get 1 and 2 votes I assume not everyone follows the voting guidelines (at least sometimes, right?) so i am curios to see if a validation notice will have a beneficial effect on my score (or perhaps hurt it).

It shouldn't make any difference since we're supposed to vote as if something is legal. Not all images that have had a dq request get the validated note.

As a matter of fact, the "This entry has been validated" tag usually increases your score.

there's been much debate but very little evidence to support this. people are still going to vote based on whether or not the like the treatment of the element in the photo in question.

I think there's more to it than you think Muckpond. Check out my stats in the last entry on this thread.

People try to deny it, but I am affirmed of the fact that photos that "look like DQs" get voted lower because of it. I've had a couple of instances where people first looked at a photo. Thought it was extremely photoshopped. Then upon realization that it wasn't change their view and of the image (scoring).
*shrug*
So no matter how much someone tells me it doesn't really matter because the rules state vote as if it were qualified. People never follow rules very well... ;0)

It all depends on the image. If the image is appealing and probable then validation helps. It helps more in basic editing because here our hands are more restrictive. It all depends on the effect. Some effects, no matter how intriguing leave a voter cold with or without validation. Then there are voters that have an adverse reaction to validated images. They feel no need to convolute images and labeled them "validated"
When the effect is attractive then validation always helps because otherwise the image is suspect. A bad image validated is just that a validated bad image.lol
Validation helped greatly with these basic editing images.
It helped these images that were started at 7 and then tanked to 5.7 or so:
It did not help with these though it kept them from sinking lower. Actually the boxer received the most comments about pushing the rules. No rules were pushed.
