It's unforgiveable.

Can we ban comments like this one? They come up almost as often as the photos in question.

And the number 17. Hmmmmmm, I'm finding it just isn't doing for me anymore!
07/18/2005 12:28:30 AM · #12
Let's just put in some sophisticated image correlation software (the CIA has some good stuff) that will automatically weed out and remove from the challenge any image that has more than, say, 7 points of correlation with a previous entry. That ought to thin down the voting load...

Sheesh...

Robt.

Probably not a good idea. There are some subjects that don't move me at all... such as, for example, kids on bicycles (or skateboards, etc.) in mid-air, that kind of thing. Just does absolutely nothing for me, no matter how well done. So when I come across this subject matter in a photo here, I just skip voting on it, because I know I probably can't be objective.

By the way, what is Fanatics? :)

To deny a future member the opportunity to photograph a subject you were allowed to seems pretty selfish.

Prejudice in any form is pretty ugly.

We ban photos that might offend some viewers. Why not ban photos that might bore some viewers i.e.
Photos that include toddlers, clouds, sunsets, moving vehicles, flowers, the color green, legs but no feet, toast, shiny droplets of water, goblets, flags, sad people, and things beginning with the letter M?

Well, I was going to submit this for something like "Leading Lines" but if your ban is enacted, would you mind modeling for me instead? LOL

Those have always been denied. If you got to win a ribbon with a (porno-type) nude photo, and the next day you proposed banning nude photos I'd consider it the same type of selfishness.

To say you are "bored" is to admit to your own failure to be able to look at a photo and evaluate it on its merits. Why should the photographer be penalized or restricted because of your lack of objectivity? If you are prejudiced against certain subjects, just skip them and go on to something else.

I find your desire to impose your aesthetics and values on others by censoring their desired method of artistic expression to be not only personally selfish, but to be one expression of what I consider an extremely unhealthy political outlook.

Personally, I kinda thought he was joking. After all, his portfolio contains photos of dogs, birds, and lizards. Not exactly the most uncommon of subjects...

Precisely.

(Where are those "this is an ronic statement" emoticons when you need them?)

I don't know why some people feel that some subjects should be banned or voted low because they are tired of seeing them. Yes I understand that I could become bland and mundane but you have to judge the photograph with a non-bias approach. As long as the picture does not violate the site rules I see no reason for banning a picture.

With that said, it is and always will be human nature to vote something up or down because of the subject. That's why when I vote the most the subject can take away or add to the score is -0.5 or +0.5. Then I go about judging the photograph on meeting the challenge, technical aspect, composition, and creativity.

As a joke, it's the equivalent of yelling "Fire!" in a theater, and is to be most strongly discouraged for the same reasons. To post an insincere but controverial opinion is the definition of forum-trolling.

I propose we suspend all members with numbers in their usernames--we're PEOPLE, not numbers. : )

You got that right! I ran screaming out of the house and into the back yard and rolled back and forth on the ground when I read that post. LOL
