I'm at a 4.8 with 37 votes.
I have only entered 2 challenges recently and am still getting use to my new camera. I hope my score goes up but if not oh well I'm still learning.

thanks for the 4 wonderful comments. Mine isnt technicaly "out of the box(as i have family in it) but it is way different from the others. good luck to all who entered. wonderful photos entered. I scanned the thumbnails lastnight and i am ready to begin scoring and commenting them. I have a feeling this will be a high scoring challenge at least from what i give out. Have a great day all and remember to keep a smile even if it is monday! :D

UGH - here we go. I'm already gettin negative that my photo doesn't mean "family." GET OUT OF THE BOX FOLKS. Read the title - DUHHHHHH
I swear, I think I'm going to go stick my head in the sand.
I've gotten 3 comments and 2 are bad with a score at 4.711 with 45 votes. I'm going to change my name to ICan'tPleaseAnybody.

I'm wondering if I score too high? But then, on a scale of 1-10, I think I am fair, not the uber critic. Is it naivity? I mean, if a photo is shot well, has mostly good points, but maybe needs a crop here, or a tad of contrast there, I still might give it a 7 or 8. I'm beginning to think most of the other voters would give it a 4 or 5!!!!
I did just get a nice comment so I'm feeling better. I'll quit pouting now.
Up to 4.87 - is it too early to start drinking???? Judy

Don't worry so much about pleasing anybody except yourself. You have a great eye, a great sense of humor, and you live in the greatest state in the Union! What more could a gal want! ;)
P.S. like the song says, it's 5:00 somewhere...have a drink for me too!

I'm with Laurie, Judy.
I know you spend a lot of time with your camera and think a lot about your submissions. Keep it up!

I am feeling really ill! First of all I am glad I did not use the ducklings and their momma I took yesterday. Also I am glad I did not actually use my family either. Once again my scores are alot lower than I expected. This is depressing. I feel this is one of my best yet, too! |

My shot wasn't really planned out, except at the last minute I siezed a shot that I thought might do 'ok' in the challenge. I don't have alot of time or opportunity to arrange challenge photos, they kinda just have to happen along for me.

Thanks Laurie and Cheryl. I didn't want to sound like a whiner but !@#$#%$ IT! I'd just like to get to 6. hee hee
The score is coming up a tad, so maybe I'll get lucky.
Maybe nobody gives 8 - 10??? OH well..... I'm going to stop complaining. It's annoying isn't it? Maybe the 2nd mug of coffee will help.
Any ideas for Independence??? Judy

I know what you mean! I have had a couple of entries into the challenges that I think they should have rec higher scores. Not that they should have won, but the number of 5's I get is unreal.

Ok...I have gone through the pics 4 times now and voted on all and will be going back to bump up/down. My general comment on the entries: disappointing. Out of the box shots on something as basic as 'family' I don't think will do to well. Just my opinion, perhaps I will be proven wrong. Shots of random kids don't convey family - just children. Nice shots, but still just children. Flowers don't convey family - why were they submitted? I can't even come up with an out of the box relationship for those. Shots of people in various settings - how do they convey family? They could be anyone. Nothing in the shots to bind them in any way as a 'family' unit. Telling me two people in a shot are brothers or sisters doesn't convey family. Just that with your title you want me to believe they are family. Again, just some nice shots of kids.
I think what is missing in a lot of these shots is the element that 'binds' the subjects together as a family unit and not just some random shot of people, even if they are family members. I won't even talk about the bird shots.
I hope this does not hurt anyone's feelings, but after reading the thread I thought you may like to know what went through at least one voters mind as he voted.
Edit: typos and structure

I'm burning it up on comments; compared to my previous submissions. Didn't expect anyone to rave about mine, but the comments are much better than I imagined.
What really suprises me is how few submissions there are. I honestly thought this challenge would be bursting at the seams!

What's with the "This looks posed" comments?? Is this a photography challenge or a snapshot challenge? Did I miss some "candid shots only" rule?

It is amazing how many scores are low and comments are critical. What is THAT all about! |

Mine's out of the box and I've never got scores as bad as this - I may pull it. |
why the heck would you pull it...because you dont like the score..thats crazy....let it ride and see what happens and learn...no one is guarenteed a thing...expect nothing and then whatever you get is gravy...

I agree - why pull it from the challenge? (I mean once the voting has started) Seems self defeating.
Does that gravy come with mashed potatos?

I would much rather honest criticism and helpful critique than blind voting! I am happy with all of my comments. The good and the bad.

An 'honest' criticism is meaningless unless it has merit. |
