Ok, I am not going to get into the right or wrong aspect of who did what, when, or how on this subject.
However, why does DPC not make a few simple coding changes that keep people from right clicking and saving photos to ones PC??? My suggestion would be that this only applies to challenge entries. Any images that are in a users portfolio are fair game since a user can rightfully put copyright information on their non-challenge entries. I am just saying that challenge images should not be able to be saved to someones machine. |

A noble thought, but no matter what coding you do, anyone can just take a screen shot and get the same thing. |

This has been discussed, (search forums for it if you'd like) but the bottom line is that there is no way around it. If I can see the image, I can save it on disk. There is just no way to prevent this.
The images are 640x640 or smaller, and they appear in the actual size.
If someone wants to use them, they will. It is only if they get caught that they have to answer for their actions...

Calm down James, there's nothing wrong with what you said! Everybody is inoccent until proof of the opposite has been shown!
Don't take a few posts that go against what you think, or that you have said, that way! It's not rare for ppl that share the same place/website/envirmonment to deffend one another! And that's what is happening here!
Kiwinick, I'm pretty sure things will work out for you!
but lets leave it for those involved, ok!?

With that knowledge i would email the site admin back with a DMCA notice and tell them it if *they* do not take it down in an hour you will go to thier web host and have the site shut down. That she stole your image is one thing, but that the site is allowing her to sell an image that they know is stolen is something else completely. It is rediculous that they are telling you wait a couple of days.

Ok - What does this mean - in english?

they dont look like the same person... im sure there are many many people named gig paler out there. People calm down, dont go witch hunting on anyone named gigi paler.
I think the more important issue here is how to keep our images safe from getting stolen. Can a generic dpchallenge watermark put automatically on all entries submitted to challenges work? Or at the very least a watermark after voting is over.

I translated it to mean basically "they are saying on dpchallenge this is a stolen photo. Perhaps it only looks like kiwinicks photo, is this really stolen?"

No, I direct your attention to the description of the photographer in question:
"The artistic and professional standards she sets for herself are high. Each photograph is her signature."
Note also the copyright notice on her contest entry. Watch where you post that image, Gary. ;-) |

I have to agree with Nico... Regardless of the outcome here, our real concern is about image piracy. I think he has legitimate questions (that I'm sure have been posed before) about whether or not we can protect the images we enter in challenges or post on the site). I personally think a watermark (while it can be obtrusive to the overall effect of the image) may be a possible solution - and a relatively easy one to implement (from a programming perspective).
Let's all work on solving the problem or continuing to vote/comment on our challenge entries before bringing out the lynch mobs. And after all, can't we produce original images (that haven't been saved to the Web at 640X"whatever") to prove our case? Not to mention the fact that we have literally thousands of witnesses here on the site to testify that our image was in fact presented here first (albeit only for those images entered into challenges)?
Just my 2 cents...
Jimmy

I like that watermark idea. Might have eliminated this thread.
Image being used without permission...
