For giggles and grins I 'Googled' myself today to see what comes up. Found a bit of a surprise.

This image has been uploaded to someones photo site and is being linked to in a blog site. Grrr. At least I was given credit as the photographer - whoopie!

I've notified the person who is using it, the blog hosting site, and the photo hosting site. Telling all of them to remove it asap. Now we'll see what happens. It should come off the photo hosting site pretty quick since they have a comprehensive 'Terms of use'.

Here is some additional info from my discovery. You may want to take a peek yourself as there were many nice photos being used there.

Details from photo properties:
//www.pix8.net/pro/pic.php?u=8212WBOa3&i=493497
(www.pix8.net is photo hosting site)

URL where the above linked image is being used without
permission:

That dude has quite a collection. Any idea what he's talking about in his blog? I hope he's not an ethics expert or anything.

Best thing you can do is change the image location to temporarily solve the issue.

I had this on my website. It is possible to prevent images appearing on other people's site by displaying your images via a CGI script. If your images are hosted on an unprotected server, however, there's not a great deal you can do, except iteratively rename your images or move them.

Here's an example: //www.calcaria.net/tmp.html

Try copying the image location into a new browser window.

If it's any consolation, I know for a fact that the photo right below yours on that page is a condom advertisement.

Here's a rough translation of the text under your photo- (as translated by dictionary.com)

Paul - Thanks, but the only place that image is hosted legally is on DPC. The image that was pulled is the 640 version from the challenge entry page. I have it up for a print but it is bordered there.

If you put the url into 'Google' when the results come up it gives you the option to translate the page. Then you can read it (if you speak english anyway). The blog hosting company (ya.com) is based in Madrid.

Ah, that sucks. :-( Guess the best you can do is chase up with the owner and the blog and photo hosts. :-/

That is a direct source to DPC, which is something that could be prevented.. I don't know what the overhead is of checking the requesting page is dpchallenge.com, however. (My simple CGI is here.)

Kosta - I don't get it. The link you provided...is that your image and is it not supposed to be there? Somebody is using it without your permission?

I was attempting to figure that one out myself. At first, I thought someone linked to it and that page is someone else's photoblog, but since up from down isn't apparent to me when navigating that site, I'm not so sure.

I've had to deal with this problem myself before. People have stolen images from //floridaphotogallery.com and //floridafishinginformation.com. My thieves were smart enough to download the images and put them on thier own server. Your thief isn't even that smart. Just send a message to his web hosting with all the pertinent info. That should solve the problem. If the results aren't fast enough you may have to do a little saber-rattling (mention suinfg the server, it's well within your right for some strange reason.

tex - I've sent msg's to all three; the person who used it - their email was on the blog, the blog hosting website (ya.com), and the photo storage site (pix8.net) that the individual used to store the image.

No response yet...

Hmm...I just checked the blog site and all images have been replaced with an 'image not available' placeholder.

I think I would also make them post a statement saying that the original below the text (translated below) was in no way the opinion of the photographer. Someone may actually be liking your work then see this and change their mind of you, (or could go the other way I guess)

And my neighbor, with so high music.

Somebody said fear?

I have had this problem occur several times, and I've even seen an image be part of a "modding" competition! that was a bit more of an insult. I keep my images at no more than 65K so they're pretty much useless... nevertheless, Judging by how many times some of these have been either directly linked or ripped.... not much can be done!

You're right. I've not rec'd any feedback yet from any of the three parties I contacted. I imagine what happened is that the pix8.net people pulled this guy's account and dropped all his images based on the 'Terms of Use'.

Hopefully I'll hear more soon...at least the image is pulled for now.

Well - Just rec'd email from the individual that was using one of my photos. Seems apologetic enough, if not naive...

email msg:
oh, i'm sorry, i didn't know that. Im not at home now, i'll do it in a few days or, otherwise, how can I do it to obtain your permission?

Thanks and excuses,

E-mail seems nice enough but for this. I would insist today it be removed.

Thanks rex. The image has been pulled, but I think by the photo site that this guy was using to store "his" images.

Well...haven't heard from anybody else. The photo hosting site appears to have pulled the images but hasn't said boo to me (not that it's their fault - they actually responded pretty quick except for not saying anything to me about it). Nothing from the blog hosting site at all either.
