I would like to make a challenge to all photographers here who have submitted a photo to a challenge where you have desaturated all but one color in your photo...
The Challenge:
Explain why you did it and how it improves the photo...
The challenge is open.

I wanted that 'timeless' joke feel - while emphasizing that I was going for foolproof with not 1, not 2 but THREE bananananananas.
Plus it works on this site. It's my highest score to date.

but seriously ... I think you desaturate all but one colour to attract the eye to the subject which is colored. Simple as that.
I Like it. I like it a lot.

Good question! I wanted an old "Ice Cream Soda Shop" feel to the photo, and thought that B/W with high contrast would work best for that. But the licorice had to be red:

The other examples are great, too!

In this shot I wanted the attention on the balls and on the egg, to make them seem more similar to each other (both being in colour).

The manhole had a distracting blue colour cast that I wanted to get rid of, and it was most effective to desaturate it. I think it looked fairly natural and improved the sharp, cold look to it, and enhanced the yellow.
