Personally I don't believe in garbage. With a little creative recyling there wouldn't be any garbage. But that doesn't mean I can't find somebody else's garbage to take a picture of. hehehehe, Just kidding. |

How about a "seasonal" challenge so those in the southern hemispheres can participate. That way we can do something like halloween or harvest if we want. Another idea some of us had was to do an "orange" challenge. It's very broad and you could do pumpkins, changing leaves, fruit, etc ;o) How about it? |

still don't see (and of course that may be just the limit of my intellect), why do we have to stay away from controversial (as that's what Christmas & Hollowing seem to be here) topics?

I like the idea of 'Orange' for the challenge spanning the last week of October, would let people do hallowe'en if the like, harvest stuff if they like, and still be wide open enough for creativity from Lisae (Do we have anyone else in the southern hemisphere ? :) ) |

I'm sorry. I take issue with this. I don't believe in creative recyling. I think a good garbage heap has to evolve.

Evolution is just a theory, not proven! Therefore you must also put that God might have created recycling in the challenge title!! ;o) (j/k, btw)

<Sets soapbox firmly on a rocky slope...>
Actually, many Christians do not celebrate Christmas either since it is a hold over from the Roman pagan celebrations of the 2nd and 3rd century... When they were being thrown to lions, they decided to celebrate 'Christian' holidays during pagan festivals... It is highly unlikely that Jesus was born on December 25th. Personally I do celebrate it as a religious (non-commercial) holiday in the same vein as many cultures have celebrated the shortest day of the year as a time of renewal and hope. I also take that as a day to celebrate Christ's birth. I don't know the exact day my daughter was born either (adoption), so we picked a day... It's about remembrance, not historical accuracy :)
<Sets aside soapbox and continues>
It might be interesting to have a special "year long" challenge where everyone gets to submit 1 photo of their favorite holiday... "Submissions must be taken between 10/14/2002 and 10/14/2003"... That way we can see the diversity and possible come to understand each other better... Then we can get the United Nations to do the same! There will be world peace! An end to poverty and hunger! We can all film a commercial singing about soda on a mountaintop!!!
Well... Maybe not :)

If 'Orange' is too wide a topic, how about just 'Seasonal Colours' or sommat like that?

Just because I don't believe in garbage doesn't mean I'm anti-garbage. I know lot's of people who believe in garbage and don't ridicule or put down their beliefs. And since I need to take a picture of their garbage I can share in those beliefs for a short period of time, yet do not have to believe in them. |

I like "Orange" a lot, but it has too much religious overtones from a UK perspective. Just ask Orange the phone company what happened to their advertising campaign in Northern Ireland.....
Other than that, I think Orange would be a great one to do...

Its another northern hemisphere one I think - at least that - could be even more restricted - I don't remember ever seeing the weird and wonderful squash shapes in the UK.
