He is beautiful....

I do wonder why no one's tried to domesticate or at least cross-breed red foxes...

Unbelievable, as I keep reading this thread, I keep shaking my head at the lack of common sense displayed by people...
1) "He" If this fox is often accompanied by kits (young foxes, cubs are for bears) it is more than likely a she.
2) If people stop feeding this fox its daily handouts it will quickly revert back to its instictual habits of much more delectable foods (at least to a fox) of mice, moles, rabbits, eggs, and occasionally a cat or two.
3) Speaking of cats, in light of foxes being known on occaion to hunt and kill cats, is it really a good idea to encourage its presence around housepets??
4) No Wild animal is tame, ever, even zoo raised animals occasionally will revert to their natural behavior from time to time.
5) Human food, rich in grease, chemicals, and trange spices are actually bad for wild animals, and will shorten its lifespan considerably.
6) While I realize this took place in the UK, in some states in the USA feeding a wild animal is illegal, for all of the above reasons.

Please folks, let the fox be a fox, and stop the feeding of it, before it or a human gets hurt and the animal has to be destroyed. I live up here in the mountains and have seen it happen time and time again when usually new residents "adopt" a wild animal through regular feedings, and then wonder why they get bit, or their cats start disapeering.

If people had always thought like this we'd not have dogs or cats, horses or pigs or sheeps or any thing of the sort.

In truth, I think humans are much more dangerous to us than such creatures.

Perhaps they saw his penis and hence know it's a male?

I'm sure that it has been tried at one time or another. In fact I think man has likely tried to domisticate almost every species on earth at one time or another. Some species have taken to it well but for others, most of them, it seems that it just doesn't work. Wild birds are an example. Every spring you can find cases of people bringing home a baby bird that has fallen from a nest. If they were suited to being keep as pets you would be able to buy a robin at PetSmart along with the canaries and parakeets.

Great photo. He/she actually does look like they are posing for a portrait. We do have the same problem here with bears...many idiots feeding them so some are getting aggressive and losing all fear of humans. But of course, our town and all the towns around us bulldozed the forests to make way for Mc.Mansions, so what do people expect.

I'm with Riponlady, all these animals are just getting in the way. Don't they know that we are the master species and that when we clear-cut a forest it is their job to just jump off a cliff and die??

I say everyone in the UK and the USA take up arms and erradicate all animals, especially those nasty meat-eating kind. We can pile their corpses in the town square where we can light them ablaze in a huge bonfire and celebrate our victory over those pesky, worthless sub-human animals. How DARE they try to co-exist???!!!

We should only leave dogs and cats on this earth, the rest be damned. Personally I've about had it with the nasty looks I get from the gorillas at the zoo too. I fancy a gorilla-hand ashtray and I think it's high time they were offered for sale. I'm going to start the fun by shooting anything that comes into my yard, who's with me??

Yep, and he has a fair old sized set of balls on him as well. Thats usually a dead giveaway. I certainly wasn't aiming to start a debate, but hell, it certainly is a good'un..

A gorilla hand ashtray sounds pretty cool, albeit probably illegal.

Great photo. What's his name? (someone has to have given him a name) Now the challenge is to get him to pose with different houshold objects. Sitting next to a blender, teddy bear, butcher knife...

While feeding him isn't a great idea, in reality he is no more dangerous then most of the dogs your neighbors own. If he ever gets to close, just yell at it, raise your arms, charge at it and it will run away (just be sure it isn't cornered). They are very smart and in most cases will chose flight over fight.

This thread should have died but after leaving it for a few hoursI come back to see I'm being accused (?) of wanting to get rid of the foxes among other animals (when did the gorillas arrive ?!?) Anyway I can't let that go - my whole feeling is these animals ought to be where they belong- out in the countryside living wild. yes I agree with foxhunting but only because it is the most sensible and humane way of keeping their numbers down so they don't come into the towns where half of them are mangy, half starved and being killed on the roads or shot by stupid kids with air rifles.
And Louddog, young children cannot chase foxes away and only they (along with your pet cat, pet rabbit, pet fowls) are in danger. The funniest thing I ever saw was a young chinese friend of ours, who was 4ft 11 tall waving her 5ft samurai sword at a young fox that she had been feeding and needed to then chase away when it started biting at her two young children!8u uuu7p;['/'lujm(sorry the cat just leapt on the keyboard!)

Enough said but I think site council ought to switch this over to Rant

Anyway... referring back to the original post, I think that it's a great image. I really like the facial expression on the little guy (gal?). He looks like he's got a lot of personality.

Here's one I encountered last March while out shooting for the Cemetary challenge in West Virginia. He looks old compared to the others posted in this thread.
