Could it be '65 Love Affair by Paul Davis - year 1982

I was a car hop
You were into be-bop
You sang do wop diddy wop diddy wop doo
All of them changes you put me through

If I could go back again
Well I know I'd never let you go
Back with some of my friends
To that wonderful
refrain:

'65 Love Affair, We wasn't gettin' nowhere
But we didn't care It was a crazy
'65 Love Affair
Rock 'n' roll was simple and clear
Oh, I still can hear I can hear it baby
Well I asked you like a dum-dum
You were bad with your pom-poms
You said ooh wah go team ooh wah go
Ooh-ee baby I want you to know

If I could go back in time
Well, I know somehow you'd still be mine
I wouldn't be so blind
To that wonderful

'65 Love Affair
When rock 'n' roll was simple and clear
Oh, I still can hear
I can hear it baby

Well, I tried to make you give in
One night at the drive-in
You said oh no baby, oh no woo
All of them changes you put me through

If I could go back in time
Well, I know somehow you'd still be mine
I wouldn't be so blind
To that wonderful

refrain

We sang doo wop diddy wop diddy wop doo
Doo wop diddy wop diddy wop doo (repeat 5 times)

Edit: A shot in the dark!!!

Perhaps its this oldie called: Why do fools fall in love...
Ooh wah ooh wah ooh wah

Why do fools fall in love
Why do birds sing so gay
Love is awake at the break of day
Why do they fall in love

Maybe some other tv shows or movies you thought the song was in? You said it wasn't in the movies you thought it was in, but what were they?

Nope still none of the above :(
#
I thought it was in Platoon, Good Morning Vietnam, Stand by Me, Apocalypse Now, or full metal jacket - but none of the above,

I am not even sure it had any words to it, all I can remember is the tune. When I sing it for my girlfriend she said she has no idea what i am on about.

I am starting to doubt the do-wah but. It's a fast 'dowah' than the songs suggested above.

Can you record a soundbite of you singing it and upload it somewhere?

There's a service in the UK (can't remember what it's called) where you dial 2580 on your mobile and hold it up to a speaker and it will text you the track. If you hear it again, Jon, or have a similar prob, try that.

Incidentally, singing into it doesn't work. :-)

Ok I have made a midi of the main riff. Again probably way off but this is what it sounds like in my head.

Maybe this is also the beginning, not sure, but it is in the main riff / chorus

Again I think circa late 1960's or early 19790's -also probably from an American band..?

I have a feeling when i do get it, people will say 'what were you on about do-wah do-wah, oh baby, blah blah blah )

So this pretty much fits in with the tune - replace blahs with midi beats.
do-wah do-wah :: oh baby :: blah blah blah :: Blah blah :: blah blah blah

Christ i am losing the polt :D

My midi file here:

Haven't heard if it's the troggs version yet as that isn't on iTunes, but heard a cover from a 'party mix' and that is definitely the tune!

Hahaha. You'll be going into HMV soon asking some random adolescent sales assistant if he knows of a song that 'goes a bit like this..........'.

Manfred Mann ???? 1964? It's a faster pace and popular during that era.
