If I am responsible for someone leaving I don't see how I can stay.
But in my own defence, the comment I responded to was harsh. My attitude has always been don't dish it if you can't take it...but the internet tends to make us forget there are people behind the posts and we say things we normally wouldn't say if we were face to face. That applies to both his and my comment...if that is what this is all about.

We have no idea why he made the decision he did...

That sounds about right. I doubt that one comment is enough to make someone leave, it's more likely an accumulative effect. And this is pure speculation...all of it is without hearing directly from gibun.

15 minutes of fame perhaps? Sounds like you want it to be "what this is all about". Pretty thin reason for leaving DPC, unless that is what you really want to do - if yes, then thanks for the contributions, if not then I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.
It's your decision, not someone elses. JMO.

Sounds like you want it to be "what this is all about".
Hardly...When I read all the posts about 'someone' upsetting him enough to make him leave, I got the feeling people thought it was me, without actually saying it. I hate upsetting anyone; the thought that I may have driven someone out that people respected made me feel sick.
I've only been here a short time, and loved every addicitive minute...my subscription runs out in 9 days...perhaps this is a sign not to renew.. |

| Amber there is no reason for you to leave too. Others have left for many reasons. The fact is that its not our choice, if he wants to leave because of something somebody said or who knows why, its his choice. I am sure almost everyone here has gotten or given comments that have upset or offended someone, its just part of it. Is it hard to take sometimes? yes but its all in the learning process of photography and life in general. Please don't leave because like it has been said nobody knows truly why he is leaving, it could be personal reasons etc... I know how you feel but I am sure it was not your fault. |

Again I say, do what is right for YOU. Also again, I say that YOUR comment should not been enough to make someone leave. Maybe it was the "straw that broke the camels back" - but I really doubt it. Another again, this is ALL speculation without hearing directly from the person that made the decision to leave.
IMO you are making too much of this...what you decide to do should be entirely YOUR decision. Do you like DPC? Then stay. If forum activity causes you grief then maybe stay out of the forums that trend to the dicey side. Personally I think you're into photography enough to dole out the $25 renewel...
Have fun, smile...life's too short to get this worked up over something out of your control. ;^)

I don't know what "savlon" is, but I'm glad you decided to let him take responsibility for his own actions. You cannot make anyone do anything here. We are (mostly) all adults.
Hope that didn't offend you. If it did, I'm still not leaving. ;-)
My favortie quote from this thread:
"You are an asset to this web page" - it just sounds funny. :)

Antiseptic with mild local anaesthetic. Sounds like quite a bit could be needed as a consequence of this thread.
Always sad to see someone take things so to heart. It is easier to judge reactions and moderate appropriately face to face - though that doesn't seem to stop me pissing people off in real life sometimes too...!
I trust that gibun will have the courage to resurface when ready to do so and continue to impress with his skills.

Sorry to all for a poor "goodbye". Fact is I have been a little sick and was hospitalized and operated on. Just returned and thought I will say hi. Nothing to the decision post, I;m a big boy, likes to stir and I can take it.
Facts first. In 1991 I was diagnosed with stomach cancer and after a few ops and a 4 year battle I was declared clean. In February this year I bacame sick again and for the past few months had been treated. Most of the time I was in pain and only the biggest effort kept me going. Eventually I became so deeply depressed that I contamplate giving up. The morning of the original message I started bleeding internally... I thought it is the end. I was angry and maybe a bit crazy.... I have so much to live for and to give... why must I die of this terrible thing eating me alive...
But I am back... fighting. Please to all of you... help me in this fight. I am really so tired of pain and fear.... so tired.
Special thanks to Lesley Goodman who kept YunSun, my lifline, positive.
Sorry for the misunderstanding due to my poor comms.

gibun - i have been so worried about you. I am really glad you decided to post again.
My thoughts go with you for this fight. A positive attitude is a real good thing to have, (although i am sure that you dont always feel that way)
Just wanted to let you know i was around if you ever need to talk

Peter, keep those two statements above in your head. Say them out loud over and over and over again. I didn't make them up, YOU said them originally. You just keep saying them. We will all just remind you of them oh, every few minutes every day from now on. ;)
We're all here for you and support you in this fight. Rest, do what your doc says, keep your faith (if that's something that helps you), and don't disappear on us like that again, young man! Sheesh...nearly gave us a collective heart attack! (hehehe just kidding)
Post as often as you are up to it so we know how you're doing. :o)

| Wow. Glad to hear you're back and fighting. If you have a chance, take a look outside. Look at all the stars up in the sky and know that each one represents someone who cares about you and is holding their hands out to protect you. |
