For my weather submission "weather vane", many people suggested that I include the whole vane, here is the uncropped version. What do you think?

I feel the original version is much better. It gives the piece more character and context. It also fits the challenge better by clearing indicating a wether related topic. Also, the thick black border drew my eye away from the subject matter too much. The original is actually a striking photo. Good work. |

I would prefer something in between(yes I'm picky). I would like a crop just below the letters with the arrow straight horizontally. I do love how you worked the colors and softness of the sky.

Thanks Ericv and Terry.
Oh yeah, here's a version that I worked before the challenge, it gave me the idea for the shoot.
Previous shoot/PS'd to death :) |

As a firm believer in cropping with the camera, my usuall bias is for full frame, it forces one to utilize the lens and the settings in a more craftsman like way.... ie. as a foundation of understanding to the strong points and the limitations of your equipment, and/also in relation to what you are aspiring to do and invision. Cropping will isolate fragments of the truth you have captured - journalists and advertising persons use the crop unsparingly. In your cropped version you have created a graphic which is flat and 2 dimensional, it has become a silhouette - it is a good one. I especially like the way the arrow sits on the bottom of the picture plane - cut across the middle. The heavy frame accentuates the flat 2d qualities, and is overkill. I would have prefered no frame. Your original, though more traditional of a classic image - has more life in the details. Both are good in my view... |

Well I'm going to be different and say that I liked your submitted one better. I think it is obvious anyway that it is a weather vane, and I always like to see unusual new ways to present photos.

I gave you a 6 on the one you submitted and I would go an 8 on the original. If you would have been able to take the one you submitted it would be a lot better too, with less loss in the processing. |

Thanks ya'll! Now I'm more confused then before :)
Goes to show the diversity in this world, my personal fav is the PS'd version.
Maybe I should make a tryptic out of the three :) |

I prefer the one you submitted as well...
asking for preference on this will get you a lot of different opinions because they are two entirely different images. I like your interpretation with the one you chose originally. I like the less literal view...

I agree with undieyatch's belief in not cropping. I had a professor you wouldn't allow us to crop our photos. I hated that restriction at first but it made me learn a lot. As for your photo, I like the original better because it shows more detail on the weathervane. I like your idea for the submitted version though. |

I also like this one the best. I love the cloud.
I never crop my photos. I try to use my camera and get the perfect picture. If I have to crop then I need to go back and take another picture because it isn't perfect. That is just my personal oppinion.
