Buzz liked 'Cruz', also. It has a ring to it, but I'm not quite sure what would fit with that, either first or middle.

Cruiz is a cool name :) My oldest is Cruiz. I stuck the 'i' in to make it spelled a little different. My youngest is Sawyer...I had narrowed it down to Sawyer or Jairus when I was in the hospital....but had started out wanting his name to be Rhace Sterling (yes I love the unique names spellings!) I probably would have named him Rhace if his last name would have been Anderson (dad's name) but dad walked out so I gave him our last name LaCasse so I changed the name.

Cruiz's middle is Dee (plain) which was after his great-granddad and Sawyer's middle name is Barden...which is a combination of my mom and dad's names...Barbara and Dennis

My name being unusual...Colette....stuck out like a sore thumb in my community. I was named after Saint Colette :) People beg to differ as to whether I may have acquired any of those saintly qualities :) As for nicknames....yes I had the problem of my oldest brother changing my name from Colette to Tolette to Toilet....Yes, he called me Toilet and I answered!! Then it evolved from Toilet to more a more colorful name of 'Turd Hopper' and once again....yes....I answered to it! The other nickname that came from my name that 'not nice' boys came up with was....well....say my name very fast....and you come up with a part of the woman's anatomy....I was not happy with that one.

Anyhow! Congratulations on your new family member to be! I love babies! I love the way they feel when you hold them close and smell them and breath them in. :)

I got vetoed on Kyle, Collin, and Keaton. Guess we're going to have to go for gender selection to have a girl, for lack of boy names-lol.

Buzz has also heard the usual: Katie Cady.
But we were both kind of partial to Muckpond ;)

Ohhh, I like Keaton alot! Not sure about Keaton Cady though.. :-) We had that same problem with our boys. We really liked Brice but our last name is Price sooooo we didn't have the heart to go with Brice Price. :-)

For the boys name, I like Christian James from you choices and Autumm Elizabeth for the girls.

But I'd have to go with Beaglboys choice, Genevieve. I've always loved that name and my name being Jennifer it kind of went along the same lines but it's a hard name for little ones to learn to spell. :-P

Best of luck to you guys.... picking our names is the hardest part. How can you give someone a name when you have no idea what their personality will be? Shizzam had a good idea to have a few and then pick the one that fits her when you see her. We have 2 boys, Mason Harmon and Nolan Ashley so I guess the next one names will have to start with either and "L" or an "O". :-D

I love Native American names (need help pronouncing them sometimes) I had a very close friend of my whos name is Small-Fire, and a friend of mind named her daughter Chenoah....very cool, loved that one. There was another girl who's name was Tsianina (pronounced cha-nee-nuh) I loved that!

I'm of the more less common names school myself. My first son, I had his name picked out years before he was ever even thought of, and wouldn't budge on it so gave his mom choice for the middle name. He is 19 now -- Rance Michael. My second son, she wanted Rusty (after the nascar driver) and I didn't care for it, so we compromised, and then each picked a middly name, since we both wanted to name him after our respective brothers. He is 18 now-- Dustin Robert Scot.

I remarried and had a daughter 7 years ago, her name is Tucker Rose, and everyone says she definitely is a Tucker (whatever that means, hehe). Some call her Tucker, some Rose, some Tucker Rose, some TR, and the wife and I usually refer to her as "the girl". My wife's great aunt is a nun, and it was kind of cute, when "the girl" was born, sister Sister said "I'll not call her 'Tucker', but I will call her 'Rose'".

ps. If Tucker had been a boy, he would have been Daschel Fox, or Benjamin Fox.

Love that name Tucker Rose.....very cool....

Great baby name finder site....lets you browse names by many different categories.

Baby Name finder

Some girl names I've liked over the years but never got the opportunity to use:

Rhiannon (had any of my boys been girls, this would have been her name)
Willow
Kendall
Marissa
Keagan
Taryn
Kassidy
Hailey
Cheyenne
Gabrielle

I was running out of boy names after the 3rd little guy, but some that I liked that were vetoed were:

Maverick
Austin
Riley
Ian
Dallas
Vance
Brice
Taylor
Devin
Tristan

I also threw out the name Tristan, and have a parrot named Riley!

You all have such great suggestions, many I never thought or heard of. A lot of gorgeous girl names, as well =)

One of the toughest decisions a person can make.

You may want to check out this link. It lists the most popular baby names for 2004. I tried to stay away from names on that list. Not that they aren't great names, but I didn't want my boys going to kindergarten with three or four other kids in their class with the same names. My boys are Cooper Elliott and Hogan Mitchell. A bit out there, I agree, but we liked them, and that's what's important!

Also, be careful asking for too much input from others. I've found that people are capable of ruining a name for you that you really like. They come up with some comment like, "I knew a fat kid who picked his nose in junior high with that name" or something of the sort. You can never get that image out of your head! Congrats and good luck!

Edited to say, OOPS! Didn't see this site linked above! Sorry!

I also didn't want my boys to have the most popular names, so did a top 20 search too. I chose samuel for my first, and the second at the time was a surprise sex.(we couldn't tell with the scans)..so we had Harry and Lilly. He was a boy and stuck with Harry Jack.

good luck...samuel was my only choice for my little boy as I did a search and it was a gift from god..and he really was....but congrats to you both and whatever the name, he or she is safe and healthy.

Buzz, I don't have time to read the entire thread right now, but I wanted to chime in with a personal perspective on unusual names. I'm female and my name is Joey - given name, not short for anything. I've grown into it now and it kind of fits me, but I hated it as a child. At one point I even told my mom I was changing my name and refused to answer to Joey. I got teased a lot and people were always bringing my brother Matt mugs and keychains and little license plates with his name on them, but I got the one that says "a special person" or something like that :) I'm not saying I'd necessarily have changed it, but be prepared in advance to deal with this kind of thing with your child if you go for an unusual name. Good luck with everything!

I like the name Jackson. I have a thing for city names (Brooklyn, Savannah, Madison...all for girls though). Even better I love the name Jack.

Buzz's other heart's desire is Thomas Jefferson. I don't know about him.. ; )

I named my daughter Marcelle some 16 years ago. If I could rename her now I'd call her Ella-May being L.M.A. phoneticly wich stands for the little Miss Attitude she turned out to be.

If it's a boy call him anything you like, as long as his first name is suffixed by, "the-destroyer." Imagine being 8 years old and having the teacher read out your name in registry as, "Matthew-The-Destroyer." ;)

Christian James has a better rhythm when said with the last name. Savannah, Madison and the other name besides Krista are more popular, so if you want something different, Krista might be it. If you like K names, what about Kharma (sorry, I had to say that).

I wanted to name my daughter Jackson (being the oddball that I am, I was going to spell it Jaxson). Hubby didn't like. Now we have Tyra Kristiana. I call her Kristiana, hubby's family calls her Kristi, dad and brother call her Kristi, my family calls her Tyra, and my niece and some of our friends call her Ty. I like the earlier suggestion of "girl." :)

True story -- In Greenville, SC, one of my friend's sons works for some kind of medical clinic. One year, a kid came in to get his physical to play football or something. First name -- Shithead (pronounced "sha-theed")

In my daughters student teaching class this year there is a Cambodian boy named Thong. In Malibu years ago I knew a kid named God who couldnt wait to be 16 so he could change it.

I love it.

As for buzzrock, out of the names listed I'd go with Autumn. My kids will be tortured with obscure names like Pink or Lime. I'm leaning towards Lemon :-) ..poor bastards...

Had a friend who taught in a rather uneducated rural environment and there was a girl there whose middle name was Placenta. The mother heard it during delivery, not knowing what it was, and liked it. ROFL
