Maybe now would be an opportune time to change batteries and check the date on your camera(s). I'm pretty sure mine are not yet adjusted for Daylight Saving Time ... : (

I thought they were little computers and adjusted to DST automatically :)

Automatic adjusting to DST would require setting the timezone, and programming knowledge of lots of arcane rules for when (or if) to adjust. Camera makers wisely choose more useful functions to put in the limited program space.

I wish they could put in a little thing like the atomic watches have (or cell phones), where the time is updated automatically.

I sort of wish all watches were like that.

An honest mistake, but still doesn't belong in the challenge according to the rules.

Nice try, but you are going to have to live with the low score. That is your punishment for "cheating". LOL.

While the SC and adminis are considering wherther a shot can be DQ'd a year later I would like to have them review my entry in the On the Edge challenge, "at a red light in Reisterstown". I just noticed the submission dates back in Dec of 03 and realized after fiddling with some old exif data that I had taken my shot before the challenge dates. A newbie mistake.

What's actually funny is that when I looked at the scoring breakdown, my eyes went to this first: Avg (commenters): 3.375 and was thinking that was the score.
4.7, 5.6, 7.0, a gazillion, makes no difference to me.

For what it's worth, this has NOTHING at all to do with averages, scores, etc.

It has to do with the fact that it was taken outside the challenge period and I don't like things on my conscience - just a newbie goof.

It never hit me until I was reviewing some old scores. It has nothing at all to do with the fact that is was my lowset scoring entry. Honest, that is just a coincidence.

No problem here - it really makes no difference to me. If the SC and admins say it's OK to leave in, that's fine too. I don't really care about my average score. Just hate knowing of something like this and just keeping my piehole shut about it.

An honest mistake, but still doesn't belong in the challenge, or my average, according to the rules.

Tell me I'm wrong Harvey, but this looks like a blatent slap in the face.

I see no indications otherwise.

If you want to start a name-calling war, please do so in the Rant section. In the meantime, I'm locking this thread while we investigate any possible rules violations, and the appropriate action to be taken if found.

If anyone else wants to admit to submitting a photo which violates the rules, please create a separate thread.

Unlocking the thread so discussion can continue. PLAY NICE!

Guys- we all appreciate your attention to the rules. This is part of what makes DPC such a great place! Right now we are debating some clarification language to the rules, and have a few other issues taking immediate priority. We would appreciate it if you guys can be patient with us on this issue. These entries have been here for a year or more, is it okay for us to have a few days to a week to address the issue?

For everyone- if you have any questions about an entry's legality at ANY time, please feel free to PM a member of SC, use the contact us form, or check with us via AIM/IM. Those of us who use those tools have them listed in our profiles.

In the meantime REFRAIN from personal attacks. They will be dealt with appropriatley. :)

We appreciate all the help you guys give us.

If a picture wasn't nabbed during the voting process and we start going back a year to dq, then I'm in trouble. I mostly shoot raw(see other long thread for that) and I delete most of my raws for dpc after a couple of weeks. So if I was to send a note off to have all my pictures validated, I'm afraid I couldn't send in the original exif and they would all have to go. Well, except for those few high scorers which I saved because I was somewhat proud of them. This retro qualifiying therefore would put a lot of people at an advantage(because they could have originals of good pictures and no exif for low scoring ones) and I think it should not be allowed on a voluntary basis.
***If the photographer was to be suspect for illegally entering lots of different pictures over a period of months and there was an investigation by the sc, then retro dq's should be allowed.

This whole debate is bordering on the ridiculous. It's not as if the SC has nothing else to do, you know. Let's just move forward and if it's been a year, forget about it. Sheesh. :o)

Canadian beer? who are we punishing, Brad or everyone who shows up for the flogging?
05/14/2005 12:38:57 PM · #40
I would opt for canadian beer over a bevy of dishwater pretenders I have had the great misfortune of imbibing in my travels.
