Just need some pointers on the site and how to get around. Picture in my profile, where to leave comments, just the basic stuff. I really like what I have been able to see so far. I feel like a pea amongst giants here. I hope I have 1/2 as much of the talent as I have seen so far.
I myself havent't touched a camera (except kids pics and holiday thing)in about 15 years. Then suddenly felt the buz again and ran out and bought a Nikon D-70. Prior to this it was a Canon T-70. WOW has it really gone this far? Anyway I took a basic photo course in H.S. I worked in a photo lab for a year developing everybody elses stuff and burned out on pics until about 6 months ago. Now I can't go into a convenient store without camera in hand. I am doing everything I can to get back on the saddle. I am even taking all of the basic classes again. But most of my time is learning the D-70. It's a pretty intimidating piece of work. Well I look forward to getting to know alot of you so thanks for the time and any help you could throw my way.

Help Wanted Does it pay anything? kiddin...Welcome aboard.

Tutorials from the Learn drop down have several good readings on getting around here.

There you will find How tos on forum code, inserting pics and what-not.

Each picture that you open to look at will have a comment field just below it...

You'll find plenty of help around here.

Welcome to the site. I don't have much time to fully explain things here but I will mention a few. First of all go into the rules section for the two types of achallenges, basic and advanced. That will get you going in the right direction. Then check out the tutorials section to see all of the help in there. Then just explore each section and see what they are about. Don't be afraid to jump right in because there are plenty of people that will help you out.

First of all, go ahead and fork over the $25 for membership because you will do it anyway within the next couple of weeks. Then, as that processes, order a wrist/hand support (the kind they use for carpal tunnel patients) to go on your mouse hand. You'll be needing it shortly. ;o)

Seriously though, I would advise you to look at this page to see what magic that little old cam of yours can do. If you have the time, peruse the portfolios of those top scorers. Those folks simply take my breath away!

Welcome to the asylum, have fun, and take lots of pics!

My few words are the following: The learning curve here is unusual in so far as it, at least in my opinion, doesn't take you too long to start producing images that appeal to you and others. The trick is to find a style, explore other styles, and continue to push the limits of your creativity. And involve yourself in the threads, posts and images of the other creative and inspiring individuals on DPC.

I agree with LaurielBlack about the membership; the membership time will come quick and it makes the experience even better. Many people have a D70 and it really helps the photographer capture exactly what they want. Nice choice. Lastly, my only piece of advice is too stress your own growth, however fast paced that may be.

Welcome to dpc Nick. You came to the right place to learn. You can pick up a lot about how the site works by reading the FAQ and Tutorials. But not everything is there so don't hesitate to ask when you need help.
