Interesting power struggle re: Olympus C-720

I'm not sure how many cameras this happens for, but right now there's an interesting power struggle at the top of the charts for the Olympus C-720. :) JasonPR, Lisae, kellymcg, nitro102 and myself are on the top of the list for our camera. Each week it seems this camera is performing better and better as new entries join our top 12. I REALLY like that we have a little battle ongoing.

Currently, Jason PR has spots 1, 3, and 11. Lisae has 5, 6, 9, 10 and 12. I have 2 and 7. Nitro102 has 8th and Kellymcg has 4th.

2, 4, 5 were all taken were all taken in the last 2 weeks.

Although there's only a few of us, the fact that I ALWAYS see JasonPR's comments on our cameras photos is important - it adds a little competition to the "well it's not an f717 or D10, but..." part of the site.

Is this common? Is there an acknowledged ongoing war for number 1 for your camera? Share your stories! :)

Huh, you should see the power struggle for the G2 boys/girls. It's brutal.

Dunno about a war for number 1 : ) but 2 of the top 3 Pi shots were taken with the 602. Getting a shot into the top 12 (although I see a top 18) is getting tougher by the week.

mavrik - haha, I'd noticed that lately too :). Until I bought my Olympus at the end of last year, there seemed to be just one guy with any highish rated photos... he's not even on that page anymore so I've forgotten his user name! I started making my presence felt, and was kind of smug, but then Jason turned up and blew all my photos away by snagging the top shot with his FIRST SUBMISSION!!! (Clark Park). It was kinda demoralising :). Then suddenly you, kelly and nitro all turned up. I'm happy to still be in the rankings there, but I know my days are numbered :/.

@Jacko - While the scores for the G2 are AMAZING and I can't even imagine cracking that top 12, only one of them is relatively new. I guess it's just a fact that using a G2 means you likely won't get into the top 12.

@bod - I had a chance to get the Olympus or the S602 for 100 bucks more. Can you say "Mav SCREWED UP!" :)

@lisae - don't be demoralized, kick his ass. We all know that the C720 is a bit tougher to work with than the f717 or 5700 or E10, D10, D100, 1Ds, whatever...but it's a great competition amongst ourselves. My weather entry has no chance of top 12, but I'm going to REALLY push my flora and fauna. :)

damn you kollin! i had the top for a while.. but then i didn't have my cam for 5 weeks, and now i'm at #3 ..

oh well, i have 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the dx4900 :P (soon to be a f717 though.. tough competiton there!)

I guess my original question has been in SOME ways answered - do you guys go visit each other's recent entries and stuff and leave comments about who's beating who? ;) I think it's really fun (and interesting) that at least 3 of us chase each other's entries...it's cool to see that other cams have some fierce competition too (good luck in 717, Ref).

I always comment on high-ranking S30 photos... I like seeing other people do well with this camera.

I just got an Olympus C5050 about a month ago. I was the only one putting up anything on the Olympus C3000 page. I think all the other photos on there are from quite awhile ago. I looked at the average for the C5050 and at 5.888 (when I first got it) I knew that I'd be lucky to get even one picture on the page. The photographers with 5050's are substantially better and more consistently better than I, but I'm glad to say I did put one up there the first week I submitted with it. Between Carsten, Kiwiness and nds, I hope it stays up there for a couple weeks.

Hey Mavrik. Nice thread. I wouldn't even know about the camera category thing if it wasn't for lisae -- she sent me a private message after my first post congradualting me on first and saying she couldn't believe I did it with my first photo. After that, I always check out all the 720 users pictures that I can find and I think its very helpful to see other people doing well with the same camera and it puts us on a level playing field. Friendly competition is great motivation. Let's all try to break 7.

Yes, we need a 7.0 out of our camera - and truly I hope we ALL do it, but I wanna get it first. hehe A little 'friendly' competition on a level field - DOH! That's what I'm talkin about.

see, you have an advantage since you are entering 2 challenges a week. I'm not a member yet because I'm about to move somewhere for the summer where I don't know for sure if I'll have internet access. By the time I get back and you guys are all shooting two 7's a week, I'll have a lot of catching up to do (and a lot of great pictures to look at).

Now I must go take more/better pictures of fauna.

I'm not sure 2 challenges a week works for me. I did two last week and got creamed - thus I only did weather this week and not candy (still getting creamed lol)

So- while I CAN enter two - at least this week I only entered one. We'll see about flora fauna. :)

Well I am not sure about the other people that have my camera, but because of you last week, I am out to try and knock them all off if I can lol The hardware is so important in good photos, that its interesting to see the quality of a person using the exact same thing as you. It can show you the limits of the camera, and also teach you about new things you never even realised it could do.

So I might not know the people I am up against, but I hope that I can at least take some photos that are considered to be among the best for my camera. lol That was all your doing. I never even cared till you brought it up lol

My first entry, I got 12th spot, and only narrowly missed 10 and 11. I know that I can do better than that, I will aim as high as I can, and hope that one day I will be on top lol

Says Bod, who has numbers 1, 8, 14 and 15 for the 602Z.
