Actually, we wanted someone who wasn't rude and insulting to other people when things didn't work out their way. |
OUCH!!!

In all honesty, I think mk is rude. I'm sorry that I am feeling upset that I wasn't selected...didn't you notice the ;-) after my post, to suggest it to be in a joking manner? And in return, I'm called rude and offensive? I think that's just about ridiculous.

As far as I know, not unless you link someone to it. like if you want to show it to someone to get advice on it or something like that and you don't want it to be seen in your portfolio.

Something needs to be kept in check here.
This is a tight-knit community of sorts. Many members have been here a long time, (not me either) have formed personal friendships in person as well as online, and there will always be cliques. It happens in the real world as well as virtual. It doesn't mean a darned thing really - it's life.
I relate this all similar to my customers.
If I have a regular, long-time customer needing some work, they will get priority over a once-in-a-while kind of customer. Both get the same quality of service, just one I will go out of my way more for.
It's a two-way street. |

Your workshop folder is not viewable to other members. You can put images in there as a trial for a challenge, to kind of keep them in a safe spot, out of prying eyes if you want, and if you have someone that you want to share them with for an opinion, you can link them to the full view URL.
One thing to remember is, don't add in catagories, camera, locations etc. as these go in the database and someone browsing a group can stumble across them. |

Cool, so I can post the photos that I don't want anyone to see because it may give away my photo in a current challenge as I stated in this link:
null
But you clique people didn't feel like looking at this thread anyway. :) (This is so much fun!) |

I don't know about clique-y, or if certain people get more replies than others. I can't be bothered trying to keep track of that kind of stuff.
But the place has changed. A year ago you would never see a thread where someone had posted a pic for critique or one where a newbie had asked a simple question, drop off the page without someone offering advice or posting a link, or directing them to a tutorial. Don't even know how to put it into words but people around here just don't seem to be as willing to help others as they used to be.
Just my two cents.

Maybe it would be instructive to explain why you don't answer those sorts of posts ? This isn't supposed to be as blunt as it may sound. I know why I personally don't participate as much any more, but why do you feel you don't respond in those cases now ? Personally I think it is the much increased volume of off and on topic traffic.

I don't think this is the case. I think that it seems this way due to the sheer volume of these types of posts. There are a ton of 'individual photo discussion' threads that crop up every day. There are also quite a few help requests posted every day. The top 30 recent threads seem to be less than 3-4 hours old at any given time. It's just a much busier place than it used to be. |

I think there are two factors which contribute to this effect which don't have so much to do with people's willingness to help. One is that MANY questions/posting are repetitive ("How do I make a border") and I'm not sure I can blame people for not wanting to answer the same question for the tenth time -- this is a more valid complaint when the Search function is working (and used).
The other thing I think is creating a problem is that people are just starting too many threads -- it only takes 20 minutes for an unread thread to drop off the front page, while several threads on similar topics (e.g. Minimalism currently) hog the slots.
I would really like for people to be forced to search for an existing thread (in some categories) before they're allowed to start a new one. Perhaps there also needs to be a limit to how many "Individual Photo" threads any one person is able to start. I mean, I could start 30 threads on photos I need more comments on right now ...

Very true.
A year ago, we didn't have 1200 shots in the voting process at the same time. We didn't have as many members here. Equipment changes even play a part, as with digicams being everywhere now, moreso than a year ago, and more affordable, shutters are "cliquing" at an astounding rate.
Lives change, schedules are busier, and suspect spare time is more precious today, than it was a year ago.
This is turning into a real hot site on the digicam popularity rankings, and with that comes a flood of new blood, many seeking help/opinions. Forum posts can get by you on the home page if you aren't actively reloading it to keep up with it.
I would be interested in seeing the growth chart here, the number of hits, membership increases, new forum posts/replies per day now vs. a year ago. I think the stats will support my thoughts on it.
It's a tough committment for volunteers to stay on top of here.
I don't think it's personal as some may feel it is. Familiar faces tend to help those familiar first. It's the way of the world.

Wait a minute, I'm getting confused here. Are bitching about...
a) DPC cliques
b) New zombie SC members
c) The number of new threads daily
d) All of the above
I just want to know so I can bitch along effectively with the rest of you.
:)

Well it is the zombie cliques that are posting all the new threads complaining about the rapid expansion in DPC SC members. So d |

Forgive me for reaching way back into the thread for this priceless response.
Besides the ROFLMAO it gave me, (and and at my age, too) it is the perfect response to this, in my opinion, non-event.
Some threads strike the fancy of the DPC viewer and some don't. A title may do it, or an image might do it. Or an idea, said differently. Some don't. That's the way it is!
Still, it's a great site, and all the viewpoints make us better for hearing them. |
