thanks grant, One More question, do you have any idea about the pictures appearing in the first 2 3 pages of the searches? I mean what criteria must be met before your pictures appear in the first pages of the searches done on different subjects? |

There has been much debate regarding Alamy's search engine, I have no idea how it works, but someone might.

Woohoo! A sale is made! And it is without a doubt one of the most "artsy" pieces I have ever done!

OK, so maybe not :)
Still, it is a first sale, and I find that encouraging. |

May I ask how much for the sale? I do like the shot. |

I honestly don't know for sure, but I can say for certain that it's not much. It was a RF sale in the smallest dimension that Alamy offers, and the number associated with it that I can see is like $65.00. At this time, no more familiar than I am with the sales payout, I have no idea if this number represents the total sale price, or the amount of the sale I would be due after Alamy takes their cut.
And, of course, I have several more sales to make to ever get a payout. I believe you have get $250 built up to get a check. |

Well done, nice feeling isn't it?
Sit back and watch the money roll in from this point.
Alamy will take 35% of that $65.00, payout is $250 when the sales have cleared. Some sales take upwards of a couple of months to clear.

Thx Grant,
I appreciate the update on the payout, and it is a good feeling to know that all that keywording, resizing, etc... did not go to waste. Also, it was encouraging to me that the image was in their system less than a week before it sold. It may be 6 months before I sell another, but now that I have sold one, I'm gonna try to keep it regular by sending them more images:) |

I have been so p!$$#% at Alamy because everything I've been sending in is either "unable to read media" (bullcrap!! something is wrong with their DVD readers), or "...sorry, we have misplaced ... could you please resubmit...". I'm wasting months because of their ineffeciency. |

Good job, Grant!
My sale at the beginning of August just cleared this week! Sheeeshh, they can be slow. At least the credit card purchases clear right at 45 days. Now I'm over $300 and waiting for my check.

I have a query. In the initial submission and I guess for all subsequent ones, it states no sharpening. I normally shoot RAW and apply some level of USM in PS, carefully trying to avoid halos etc. Have those of you have been submitting been sharpening at all?
I have to admit I'm a little surprised at their requirement. How could they possibly tell if the shot had been sharpened if only a small amount has been applied in any case? |

I sharpen but I look at the images at 200% also. And, I only sharpen what needs sharpening (not skies, water, etc), on a separate layer which I often fade.
If you sharpen before resizing its not as noticible. |

All my images were submitted with zero sharpening - both in camera and post processing. All were accepted.

Here's another one for you. Is it normal for TIFF's viewed in windows explorer to look signficantly different colour wise to what I see in PS? |

You must be using a different color space in photoshop. That's the onl thing that could cause a variance that I can think of when using the same monitor. |

Yep. Thanks.
Edit: Well I dunno. I'm not sure if I'm seeing things or not, but even with RGB 1998 selected in CS2, the images are looking different in explorer.

I just signed up in preparation for sending in my QC CD. I got a chuckle when I got to the question:
"You have chosen to receive royalty payments by cheque. Please provide a payment address, where you would like all proceeds from your sales to be sent."
Aren't they optomistic? :) |

Can anyone post a 100% crop of an image accepted by Alamy? I don't want to waste my time if my images aren't sharp enough. |
Here is the whole image (alamy version is 70mb):
Red square is crop area
...and the100% crop |
Thank you Brent! All the posts here have been great, but this particular one has helped the most. :-) |

Can't comment on the misplacing issue, but I'd respectfully suggest that if they are having trouble reading your media it's you who has something wrong with your DVD burner, or possibly the media itself - Alamy are perfectly capable of reading DVDs from other people! |

I read this whole thread late last night. Very interesting to me as I have always wanted to submit to stock agencies but held back for whatever reason. ? Good luck to all of you! :)
The thing that I'm "most" concerned about at the moment is the withholding tax for non UK residents. Let's say I am accepted and I sell an image. Wouldn't I get a very small percentage after Almay gets it's cut and the UK tax is withheld and then I pay my taxes here. Comes down to about .08 cents on the dollar!!? is what I'll clear. :( |

You should get a tax credit for the foreign withholding tax. If it's a small amount then it's not a big deal on the return but if it's a lot there are some extra scary forms. |

Is that right? 8 cents on the dollar end up going to a non-UK resident?!? Wow, if that's true then it's worse than a penny site!
