Just picked up this months Digital Photo Effects and found my Best of 2005 shot in there along with my storm clouds over tryfan shot :D

- not hugely exciting but they printed the Bavarian shot full pagewhich is always nice and makes up for the disappointing 6.5 it scored :D

The pages

The Cover

The DPC originals

May add that no Neatimage was used on those - lol

That's fantastic!
Do you mind my asking what kind of payment they offer for photos published? Not that I'm ever likely to get any of my stuff published but one can always dream, right?

Congratulation!!! I am going to check if the nearest Chapters stocks this magazine. I like a lot "Bavarian Alps - Germany. I would like to see the "Storm clouds over Tryfan" original to have full apreciation of your Photoshop mastery.

F all :D

Depends, this time nothing as part of a competition entry - however some if commissioned vary hugely, I was once asked to design the cover for a mainstream magazine and they only wanted to pay £300.

In my experience they pay poorly - the only time photographs in publication make much money is if they are celebs in scandal, then you can change pretty much whatever you like :D

Or shooting on location for a glossy.

General fillers between nothing and £200

As for being publishes - just send your stuff in, they really are not very fussy at all - they all have reader sections etc. I think that is my 5th or 6th photo in that magazine alone. (DCMag)

Belive me, photoshop made this photo - will try to dig it out. It was flat, colorless and bland.

I am not sure I want anything published without a fee (unless it IS because I've placed in a competition. But I'll keep it in mind. Thanks!

Why not Kavey? If money is your aim, from all my design & photography work that has been published unpaid - I have made more money off the back off it than I would have been paid by the magazine - simply by people seeing your images / details and contacting you for commissioned work..

think of it as free advertising rather than them getting a free image..

I was recently quoted 60 GBP for a full A4 page and 30 GBP for a half page in a similar British photo mag.

Sounds kind of weird but I think it's because money isn't my aim... what I mean is it's not my aim to make a living from this. So what I would want is for the value of anything I do get published to be recognised at the time since I am not interested in marketing value of it being published...

Another consideration is that competitions often (though not always) stipulate that entries must not have been previously published. I don't suggest for a minute that I think I have work worthy of winning any competitions but I think I'm more interested in being able to enter these freely than in the thrill of having something published for free.

Then again it would still be a thrill since it's still a recognition of skill.

I don't know really...

Congrats. Nice photos. I have been lucky enough to be published on a few occaisions. I recently got featured in a double page article in practical Photography (UK Publication) they are actually going to pay me for the use of my photo, which is nice!

jonpink - I think it's awesome, but not surprising to others who have seen your work. Congratulations! I wonder if I can get that mag in the US?

...and to think I made fun of you!
