I've dropped from the mid - 6's (at around 18 votes) to low - 5's after 70 votes. :(
I figure it will end up near my average.
I just got one comment regarding a low vote. It had nothing to do with with technique or composition. It was a condemnation of a portion of the subject. (kind of like if a PETA person condemed a person wearing a fur coat in part of the shot - just an example, nothing about that in my shot.) |

Yeah, but think about this: 32 feet/second squared.

Very curious how they (not just one or two but several) seem to strike alot of people at the same time. |
Same troll, multiple user names? |
To bad the admins. haven't been able to ferret them out as yet.

Not too bad so far, but let's see how it goes. |

Not serious? You think I'm not serious??!! What the hell do you mean by suggesting I'm not serious? I've done it - I've actually done it. I AM ANSEL ADAMS! No, wait - I'm BETTER than him!!! I've dodged, burned, dodged burned, blackened, enriched, saturated and then dodged & burned some more. Where there was clear, blue sky there is now a swirling weather system normally found only on Jupiter; where there were gentle white wisps of mist there is now a blanket of illuminous fog that would grace a valley of the dinosaurs; where the were some gently lit forms there are now ruggedly defined amorphous shapes, a la 'The Day of the Triffids'. I have not been deterred from my quest: my head has been rightfully buried in my screen for nigh on 24 hours, opening files, converting to mono, checking for 'Ansel Potential' using my special 'AnselVision' PS action, then discarded and moving on to the next if it fails to move me to tears. My wife asked for a cup of tea (on Mothers' Day) and - true to my art and without a second's thought she was struck to the ground - and onwards I went. Any subject would do: I've photographed everything from my foot to the London skyline - but all have been discarded unless they can be converted into more drama than Lawrence of Arabia, Goodfelllas and Ishtar all rolled into one. I've added thousands of layer masks until Photoshop finally choked back its last segment of RAM and said to me "you're just too damn good - I need another Gigabyte". And now I've arrived - the Holy Grail of ribbons, the Dodge+Burn to Oblivion challenge. And I've won it. That little blue Gif is mine. It's ALL mine. I thank you. I'm the greatest!... The GREATEST...... THE GRE...... oh God... I've burst my brain.

ROFL! Day of the Triffids and Ishtar...too funny!! |

Wow, my score went way up overnight.. only 2 comments though. I'm sure it'll fall back down to earth, but what fun seeing a decent score for awhile. |

No, not really. Especially on the heels of Light on White. When do we get to take a break from B&W?
My score is bobbing up and down in the NCZ (no comments zone).
Looks like this is going to be another challenge where I meet my goal of beating my Avg Vote Received but wind up in the lower half in percentile rank.

Occam's Razor: maybe other people don't like our photographs as much as we do and are expressing their opinions in votes. |

I was just being facetious. I believe in gnomes and leprechauns, but not trolls. |

From what I saw there were a lot of photos where the photographer has overconcetrated on the editing end and totally forgot the content of the photo itself, resulting in a very boring photo.
I gave two 8's, 23 7's and a boatload of 6's and 5's and was a bit disappointed with the entries. After looking at many AA photos I had expected more.

I see half a dozen images worthy of a 9 or 10 for sure, maybe a few more. Overall, the aesthetic quality, espeically the composition, in this challenge seems relatively low...

Still going up. Apparently the generous voters are out this time of day. I'm dreading the inevitable fall. |

I think that people (well me in particular) spent too much time thinking about the other aspects of Adams style and didn't always consider composition. I think had I used a portrait view to crop out a bit of clutter on the left side I would have done a lot better. It would have been so easy too, but you live and learn and at least I did learn something useful this challenge. Previously I've only learnt the bloody obvious ie. if no one can see your photo, it's probably rubbish(see pain).

No time & not one shot to spare on all my cards after the weekend.

...and I'm hoping to beat my Avg Vote Received, but as I'm right on it now, I have less hope.
I processed and submitted on a friend's computer. Now that I'm home, that old "Monitor Calibration" thang has raised it's ugly head... |

Here is something I quickly put together to chase votes
I still need to work on it a bit, but that's all the time I have for it now.

I was trying to think of how to do that myself, but I'm not that smart. Thanks! Now if you can create a cookie for everybody that tries it and keep track of how Bradp, Scalvert, Heida and others are doing, that would be worth some money! |
