Are we looking at different challenges? I am very disappointed with the challenge as a whole. This is the first challenge in a long time in which I have not given any 10s. There are some nice shots but nothing fantastic. Makes me appreciate Ansel's work more I guess.

You've already voted on all of them???

lol. No!

I just viewed them all quickly but a 10 is a 10 and I know immediately when I see it. That didn't happen this time around.

I have in fact voted on none of them. :)

i could use one of those 10's! quit bein' stingy. ;)

I could never get comfortable with my entry. The bar is so high and the method new for me. That said, I am better for the attempt and now my awareness of many components of a photo is raised considerably. 5.7 currently. Glad I entered for the education I gained from it.

I'm a little suprised at some of the prime locations showing up with poor lighting, lost focus or shallow DOF. A small correction would have nailed very high scores given the drama of the landscape available.

Is it me, or are a lot of the pictures looking grainy or is that the result of changing from colour to B & W? Some of them appear either too dark, or not showing enough detail but I'm still looking through and voting but I think it might look better during the day time, to really see the dark and light tones? I've noticed the shallow DOF too.

Hard to do a good, dramatic B/W shift without introducing grain. Especially in skys, where you darken by filtering out the blue component. As a corollary, a LOT of these images have used neatimage or some other smoother to hide the graininess, producing an image the is more reminiscent of the pictorialism that AA and the rest of the group f:64 were reacting against.

I'm surprised at the number of images that are seriously OOF. And there are a large number that could be very nice if they's more fully expressed the tonal range, Adams challenge or not. This makes me scratch my head in puzzlement.

Still and all, they're quite a few really nice images in this batch. Nice to take a break from color, isn't it? Espoecially on the heels of "pink"...

Yeah, I was definitely feeling the effects of such a high standard... I felt kind of forced in this challenge, in a way I don't usually. To come up with an image that in any way compares favorably to Ansel Adams's work, I felt like I needed more than a week. This would have been a great two-week challenge, for me, anyway...

I had a really hard time choosing which photo to enter and probably chose the wrong one. It's not doing horribly, but it's nothing fantastic... I just liked the feel of it. I'm not even sure it's my favourite, but I was pressed for time and went with the one that was selected by those whose opinion I asked.

We'll see, I guess. Haven't even glanced at the other entries yet.

I'm delighted given I couldn't get it exactly the way I wanted it.

75% of the comments have noted the problem I was have with my sky
I spent 4 hours trying everything I could to fix it but to no avail
I'll have to re shoot this when the weather is not overcast and cloudy
as I'm very happy with my first Ansel Adams type shot

Not serious? You think I'm not serious??!! What the hell do you mean by suggesting I'm not serious? I've done it - I've actually done it. I AM ANSEL ADAMS! No, wait - I'm BETTER than him!!! I've dodged, burned, dodged burned, blackened, enriched, saturated and then dodged & burned some more. Where there was clear, blue sky there is now a swirling weather system normally found only on Jupiter; where there were gentle white wisps of mist there is now a blanket of illuminous fog that would grace a valley of the dinosaurs; where the were some gently lit forms there are now ruggedly defined amorphous shapes, a la 'The Day of the Triffids'. I have not been deterred from my quest: my head has been rightfully buried in my screen for nigh on 24 hours, opening files, converting to mono, checking for 'Ansel Potential' using my special 'AnselVision' PS action, then discarded and moving on to the next if it fails to move me to tears. My wife asked for a cup of tea (on Mothers' Day) and - true to my art and without a second's thought she was struck to the ground - and onwards I went. Any subject would do: I've photographed everything from my foot to the London skyline - but all have been discarded unless they can be converted into more drama than Lawrence of Arabia, Goodfelllas and Ishtar all rolled into one. I've added thousands of layer masks until Photoshop finally choked back its last segment of RAM and said to me "you're just too damn good - I need another Gigabyte". And now I've arrived - the Holy Grail of ribbons, the Dodge+Burn to Oblivion challenge. And I've won it. That little blue Gif is mine. It's ALL mine. I thank you. I'm the greatest!... The GREATEST...... THE GRE...... oh God... I've burst my brain.

Jon, Have you been watching me on webcam? That pretty much sums it up except the "greatest" part. I'm afraid I was thinking negatively.
You're too funny. :D

Went to bed last night after 17 votes and this morning I have taken a major dive in score. I usually like the stay up 'till at least 15 votes have come in (if I can stay up that late.) Usually gives me an indication of where I'm headed. Really got surprised this morning, though. Anyone else see a major drop (over 1 point?)
