Didn't you know how it was scoring?

It never had a shot....it got dq'd really fast. It was averaging around a 5.2 with mainly negative comments regarding my border. So people must of deducted points for that.

I wish my surreal score was doing this well.

I like it but I think it could use some more contrast to achieve the "Adams" look. I wish I knew how to tell to to accomplish that.

This is really nice as far as the "conversion" goes; the tonalities are lovely and the snow's really well-rendered. Compositionally it's a different story. I see several problems here:

1. It lacks any real sense of "subject, it tends to be a highly detailed "whole". This is very anti-ansel; his pictures mostly worked on a principle of drawing the eye inexorably towards a focal point of composition.

2. The tiny, light wedge of foreground needs to be either eliminated or (preferably) extended another 10% or so down.

3. There's too much of a background/foreground ambiguity, also anti-ansel. This could be fixed, bu substantially darkening the background trees and sky albeit with great difficulty where the willow intersects same. It might be more easuly fixable before conversion, depending on the relative colors involved.

4. The light pole is absolute death on the image, especially because it shows so clearly the radical up-shot persepctive.

So, probably middle-of-the pack at best I'd guess. But who knows?

Been fluctuating .1 up and down all day, and I expect it to lose quite a bit of steam before the end of the challenge, but still this is one of my best scores yet.... which isn't bad for a last minute shot I guess :)

There are some very nice photos, but I'm very suprised at how out of focus many of them are. I was looking for sharpness and clarity first and foremost...but really upset at the lack of in many photos.

Not too shabby for one of my last shots of the day.

I have had a few comments on the good tones, one quoted slightly grey :) I guess the monitor calibrations are having a lot of bearing on the votes. Many appear too dark to me.

A agree. Monitor calibration has played a big part in this one and Light on White.

Did you say dropped???.... I am hoping for the voting to stop real soon. Mine was a 6.22 after almost 100 votes and is now sitting proudly at 5.87.... and a very impressive portion of that drop happened overnight and with only a small percentage of the overall votes. Could it be that all the folks that really hated it opted to wait till the last day to vote on it.

I would love to say that "the score doesn't really matter" but I would be lying through my teeth. If I truly didn't care about the scores, I wouldn't bother looking for things to take a photo of, I would simply shoot the closest available thing that met the challenge and run with that.

Perhaps the worst thing about this scenario, is that I would wager that I got absolutely no feedback at all from the people that doled out really low scores (ie: 1) telling me why in their opinion the photo was so bad as to warrant such a low score.

I am done venting... now I shall take my camera and venture forth like I really knew what I was doing. Have a great day folks.

Ray

Sheeeesh.......It dropped to 5.8597 from the time I posted this... go figure.

More likely a large number of people had you "sorted" in a parking orbit of "good shots" and then upon review relegated yours to the lower end of that range. For example, I park the shots that impress me at 7, then sort them into the 6-10 range later when I examine them at leisure.

In other words, you made the first cut :-)
