Does anyone else have trouble naming their photos? Any suggestions on inspiration for names? I admit to having the same problem naming novels or short stories when I write, so maybe giving things names is just a block for me.
Thanks,

I can never think up titles.
Try thinking up a boring name then going to //www.thesaurus.com and finding alternatives.

If anything, I have the opposite problem...I'll have a great title but not enough ability/time to interpret it well!
If anyone actually wants specific suggestions, feel free to send me an email with a link to the image (or embed a small version)... |

I try to invoke a feeling when putting a title on my photos.
For example, my very first submission to dpc was "Spring!". Although a photo needing quite a bit of work (I have learned so much since then! :P), it was a photo symbolizing jumping for joy because spring had arrived. It could also have meant the jump.

I just went through all possible synonyms in the old thesaurus. Every time I liked something I rushed downstairs and asked my husband what he thought and which version of the photo he liked etc - bearing in mind that it happened at least 5 times and there was an interesting programme on the telly he is a bit annoyed with me. I still think it's important to ask someone who has an objective perspective on stuff.

I always struggle with the names of all of my novels too. : ) Seriously though, it can be tough. I've been learning not to try to get too cute with the names because either a lot of people don't get it or when I read it the next day it seems stupid and then I have to live with it. Instead I now rather try to keep the titles very simple and a little bit descriptive. I think very short titles are best but sometimes a longer title can be appropriate. It just depends on the image.

Titles can also be useful for adding a little information to your photo: remember, besides the image, this is all people get. Often, if you start there, you'll find a decent title will come to you.

it's funny. i was going to start a similar thread, but my point was that I don't think photos should be titled and I have a problem putting titles to my submission but it seems that "Untitled" as a title scores much lower. To me, a photo is a photo. If I had to name every good photo I took I would go completely insane. Surely, it can be helpful to remember what the subject is, such as a persons name or place, etc, and the date it was taken, but titles seem silly to me in general. |

I have found that pictures although good can be misinterpreted or not understood. I have begun to use titles which may seem trite but help to describe the picture to help those who don't spend the time to figure them out. |
