When I first saw my score it was 6.8xx after 57 votes.
It very quickly dropped and settled to about 6.55x and has bobbed up and down for the next week.
But over this weekend it's started to drop again and is now all the way down to 6.47xx!
Is anyone else experiencing a sudden drop since yesterday or is it just me?
I was so hoping to beat my best ever score but, at this rate, that's slipping away!
Boo hooo!

I feel your pain. My score for days was hovering right around 6.35. Not great but oh well. Since yesterday afternoon, in just a few votes it's dropped to 6.15. Maybe grumpy snow-shovelers?

Don't complain--I haven't seen 6 since the very beginning and now I have trouble keeping a 5.7! I'll trade. ;) |

How about this...
Right now I'm at 4.5 (right where I've been the whole time) -- and I have 9 identical comments.
I'm thinking I see where I messed up. hahaha

Mine started at 7.167 within the first 6 votes, then 6.6, then 6.2, now it is at 6.154 |

As long as it doesn't finish higher than 6.3794 ;-)

For those who don't get the significance of 6.3794 note deapee had not always shot with the Canon 300D.

Thanks folks!
I must admit I don't enter often enough to really have a strong feel for things but... the experience I have had has usually been that the score starts high just for the first few hours and then drops to a more realistic point and then pretty much stays there throughout the rest of voting. It might go up or down a tiny bit when results are announced and invalid votes removed but... generally it stays fairly steady during the week.
I'm curious as to whether the sudden drop is down to boredom because of a longer voting period, general grumpiness because of weather or other reasons, a reaction from people unhappy with their own scores who have gone through and lowered the votes they gave or just a weird coincidence that those who are voting over this weekend are simply harsher in their assessments than those who voted during the week?
:o)
PS I'm not saying I think my image deserves a higher score - I know it will get whatever it gets... I'm just surprised at this sudden drop!

hmm, voters can be very unpredictable Kavey.
In Architecture II challenge I now have 5.47 and I started with 4.9 after about 20 votes (I was really disappointed with that! I still deserve more than 5.47 imo :-P) |

I'm not voting. But people that go thru and give a general placement vote might be going back thru and giving their final vote. I know bear places some of his as a 7 but then lowers some during the final process. So if a lot of people do that it could account for a somewhat lower score. |

Here's my theory: Its the math of the thing. As more votes accumulate, more tastes are accounted for and everyone's score drifts towards the center. Mine, being much lower than yours. is creeping up while yours creeps down. However we probably maintain the same standing relative to eachother. So the score you see is an averaging effect of a large voter pool and not so much an indication that your photo is dropping in rank. |

I don't think so... Anyway this shot was taken with the S5000 so you don't have to worry....
Yet.....

posted in a different thread last night - same thing has happened to me. Have dropped from 6.575 to 6.40 in last 2 days. I haven't entered many challenges, but with so many votes I figured my score was stable in the 6.5's. Doubting I'll hold onto my 6.4 now. Predicted my score at 6.373, so I guess everyone is agreeing with me. :-) |

Yeah I know, I ALWAYS vote that way myself but... in the limited experience I have, this hasn't usually had much impact before.
Maybe with SUCH a high number of entries MORE people than usual are resorting to this voting technique and it IS having more of an impact?

Could be... interesting theory!
But I didn't think the number of voters was higher than usual - just the number of entries?
Aak! I dunno and I doubt I'll ever know but... isn't it a big old bummeroony?!
He he he!

I think it's just a bunch of cranky voters who see their "best work" getting low scores. Just a theory.

Jaques, I wondered about that but... it would never feel right to me to do that so I always assume others wouldn't do it to... but then again it wouldn't feel right to me to burgle someone's house and other people DO do that all around the world...

Actually looking at the NUMBER of votes - it hasn't gone up very much at all over last couple of days so, you're right, I think it IS people adjusting their scores downwards.
I'm going to hope it's just voters who are genuinely fine tuning first draft voting rather than people who are pissed off about their scores and bringing everyone else's down to compensate.

I experienced the exact same thing Kavey...checked my score this morning and it had dropped quite significantly after having been very steady over the last few days...now at 6.35

Mine's at 6.86 right now and has actually been holding fairly steady the last 3-4 days. It actually drifted up .02 or so the last several days. I'm actually surprised at the score. Given the comments, and the # of favourites it's at right now, I would have expected higher. I have a hunch that this challenge is being voted pretty low in general. As hard as it is to be objective, I've seen enough around here to think that the type of shot I took would score in the low 7s. We'll see. I don't think 10th place in this challenge will score above 7.

Gordon, pooks to you too! It's a bummer ain't it?
Lucky you, Jimmy!
As punishment for my posting this thread it's dropped some more in the last few hours...

Go figure. Of course, I'll take it!!

I've been holding steady at 5.2 the entire time (+/- 0.2)
I’m obviously not certain how others feel. But I get a tad miffed by voters making snide-ish comments because they are unaware of the subject in my submission. While do think it’s a good thing for the image to have ANY impact – the score certainly shows the negative side of that equation.
