Please let me have your feelings on this: I will download various DPC pics and use them as labels for my personal audio CDs. Nothing for sale; just personal. The pics can come from any source depending on the type of music I'm downloading.

Is this OK with you folks?

Thanks,

I would say personally say 'yes' for my photos as long as they are only for personal use.

People will probably all have different views on this though, so it is best to send a PM to whoever's photo you want to use, asking permission from each seperate photograhper.

I agree with this, but out of politeness rather than strict legal necessity. I'd also suggest adding a photo credit with copyright notice on any printed pieces...

Yeah, so when someone gets busted with a basement full of copies the RIAA knows who to go after ; )

Fine by me, so long as they are for personal use only.

To use one of mine, you will have to obtain permission first. :-)

If you want to use them, I'd recommend asking in each particular case - and respecting the reply you get.

I'd be much more flattered than upset. As long as I get credit for it somewhere, feel free to use one of mine. I make photographs to share (since I can't eat or sell them).

I would have to agree with Gordon. I will say you do have a nice concept there =o)

Under site rules, each photographer retains copyright on his or her own photographs. You should contact the photographers of each photograph you intend to use.

I agree completely, but I'm pretty sure the intended use as described would constitute "Fair Use" under the (US) Copyright law.
That's another reason file sizes here are kept low. Our challenge submissions can be printed at high resolution to maybe 2x3 inches.

As a jumping off point on fair use doctrine and how it relates to the net, try The Stanford University Archive

Typically fair Use is only for educational purposes or if a small excerpt is used, not really sure that it would apply for this kind of thing in general, where the entire work is being copyed, all though only for a limited distribution.

All this legal nonsense aside, I still think it makes sense to ask the person who owns the picture that you want to copy, if they mind - and if they do, respect their wishes. I'd expect most people would be flattered, although if they are already trying to sell the image or have submitted it for stock etc, might legally not be able to let you make copies.
