This is my challenge suggestion: "The End"
As simple as that. Photograph the end. Interpretations would be left up to the photographer. I know that in challenges like this people tend to give a lot "doesn't meet the challenge" comments but challenges with such a broad spectrum, in my opinion, spark creativity. I like very specific challenges as well but one does get tired of looking at 200 pics of the same thing. Just my two cents.

A good suggestion. I think all challenges should be broad enough to avoid a literal tie to the definition. Yes some people fear the broad definition because it lacks specific direction, however, I can rattle off a list which although broad are still open to poetic and literal interpretation:
Primitive Shapes: The square, rectangle, triangle, cones, cylinders.
Take an image that incorporates any or all of the above as found in items around you.
The Wall: shoot an image that exhibits a dead end in understanding or in any endeavor.
U.O. unidentified object. Shoot an image wherein the viewer will experience a hard time to identify the subject.
Poetry in Motion...an image that displays harmony in movement.
Alchemy: make an interesting rendition of metallic and shinny surfaces.
Rough texture
Fine texture
Stairs.
Windows eyc, etc.

Agree it would be an interesting challenge with a wide variety of interpretation. Two such examples from Laurie's and GraphicFunk's portfolios.
End of life, End of match.

How many moons would we see in this one? Could we please restrict the butt shots? Otherwise, I also think this is a great idea. |

Im all for it.
I like the lack of a definition. Perhaps all challenges should be that way! |

I don't agree. The challenge should be completely open. Besider, I think people like DrJOnes could come up with some really good butt shots :P

It's not as much of a challenge if it lacks definition.

Shouldn't we have "The Beginning" challenge first? |

do you have a ribbon winning idea for "Beginning"?, if so, we should just skip to the end...

Regarding challenges "lacking definition", as i see it there's two kinds of challenges; the ones where a very specific goal is set, and the ones that leave the interpretation wide open; that is, "literal" challenges vs "metaphorical" challenges. I see room for both, in here. I'm strongly inclined towards the metaphorical, myself, but that's just a personal preference.

Great idea, June! I'd love to see some challenges without accompanying descriptions. Note, I'm not campaigning for the abolition of all descriptions but just for variety...
I think conceptual challenge themes such as this one cry out for NO description and wide and creative interpretations...

No, I can never seem to finish Beginning, and I have just as much trouble starting the End. |
