It looks like my project at Micron in Manassas, VA is ending early due to a round of layoffs (I am a consultant, not a Micron employee). My options now are projects in Indianapolis, Portland, or a corporate management position at our headquarters in Austin, Texas.
Any comments from people who live in those areas would be welcome and appreciated!
Thanks,

JD Anderson

My husband is getting laid off from the same job, smelly! Today is his last day - works for Dynamic Systems - we have no idea what we're going to do next. Small world!

Austin is a great place if you like an outdoor life - plenty of live music, running, triathlons and that kind of thing. Photographic opportunities are interesting if you like the 'Texan' view of the world, though Austin seems to be the only part of Texas that actually isn't in Texas because it is so diverse.

A very young city, with a huge university, so it has a student feel with a big high tech background, although not so much due to the tech slump - things seem to be picking up a bit now though.

Its hot here though! When summer starts it hangs around for 6 months and is pretty much constantly over 100F and sunny. Best place I've found to live in the US so far. The people in Austin who talk about traffic problems haven't seen cars before as far as I can tell.

I've been to Austin once for a week and it seemed like a fun place. I've never really imagined myself living in Texas, though. I hear that Austin is not really like the rest of Texas! They sure have great food there! My job there would be a corporate level management position with my company.
I grew up near Indianapolis, but moved away from there in 1983 when I was 18. I still have lots of family in the area (Fishers, Carmel, Pendleton, Lapel, Anderson, etc). It would be nice to be near family, especially since I have three boys, ages 1, 3, and 5. My client in Indy would be Eli Lilly.
I've never been to Portland, but I hear it's beautiful. My client there would be Intel.

Thanks for all of your input!

I'm guessing Portland, Oregon? Oregon's great. Weather's unbeatable if you like it mild, lots to see and do, very close to the coast and not too far from Northern California, which is awesome.
