Good day people of the DPC universe!
I submitted THIS photo in the before & after challenge. I went out on a limb trying out new things knowing well that the score would be low. :-) But I was hoping for a critique... oh hum.. I didn't get one. Any one up to the challenge??? :-D

lol.. i don't like the colors, but that's just preference... subjectively, i don't care for the message being sent... I think you could probably make a poster sized print of this and sell it to high school and college kids quite easily :)
I think you have targeted a very narrow audience with this shot :)

I think part os the problem is that without the title it's hard for the viewer to know that your "happy bird" actually represents (I think) a de-escalation in animosity... |

I might have a go at it- if I can ever get dug out from all this snow and to a computer with a better image. I liked it. If I forget, send me a private message to remind me. |

I don't normally look at the members challenges - too busy trying to vote/comment the open challenge. But here goes anyway...
I like the colours in this shot - especially the orange highlights on the hands. The black smudges in the purple are a little offputting since they don't seem to have any significance.
I don't think the smily face on the finger adds anything to the shot - the image would be stronger without it (in my unknowledgable opinion anyway). In terms of meeting the challenge - there is definitely a "before" and "after" component with the two hands however it's hard to understand the event which caused the change. Also the blurring is darker on the left, which implies to me that the "finger up" hand is the before, I'd prefer "before" on the left and "after" on the right.
Composition is quite good - perhaps a tiny bit more purple on the left to balance the two sides would be good. The simple border is good - anything more complex would take away from the image.
I probably would have gave it 6. I would have given up to 1 extra point for removing the smily face (I just don't get it), and 1 extra point if it fitted the challenge more obviously. |
