I don't think sarcasm is necesary yet. I just wanna know why rewarding the people that do well here entitles everyone else to more?

Well, maybe it's not necessary, but it's not too early. For a re-cap of what to expect from this thread, let's review the last whining thread from the first Masters Challenge so that MAYBE just MAYBE some new ground can get covered this time instead of the same retread carping.

But wait: it does not have a qualifying clause. This may be open to all members? Site council: need your feedback.

I think it's not fair to limit the fun stuff like impressionism to the masters and giving the members 'calendar' pictures... impressionism is easy to do... all the landscapes with creeks for the month of april are going to be boring :(

Why not? I just can't believe the whining about stuff like this. For the tremendous sum of $25 a year we get multiple challenges to enter every month. We get fellowship on these boards. Most of us are here to learn and get some incentive out of the challenges and out of seeing the better talent. It helps us get better. Separate challenges for Masters now and then are good to isolate these better works so that we may learn from them. As we get better we get to compete against them and eventually may even beat them in a challenge. What incentive to strive to get better. If your only here to win maybe your here for the wrong reasons.

i personally like seeing the masters photos because yes i am here to learn, participate, and communicate and not to win ribbons, although that would be nice too :) i am completely happy with my contibution of 25 bucks, ive already made that back in knowledge
whatever, who cares.

I can't see how they expected there to be anything but an uproar over another "Master's" challenge when absolutely none of the issues rased during the furst waste of time were ever addressed. There were simply brushed aside with 'wait and see what happens after' -- well we waited, but nothing was ever done to address the issues.

Does anyone want the remainder of my membership?

Btw, impressionism should have also been a basic editing challenge. Who cares about photoshop...
11/01/2004 01:29:25 AM · #34
There is no way we should have a non-ribbon winners challenge. If we don't let the best compete, that would just degrade what winning a ribbon means.
11/01/2004 01:30:06 AM · #35
When you paid your membership fee, do you ever remember seeing something that promised you the right to enter any challenge? Hmmm nope. But do you remember thinking "Hey! I can enter the member's only challenges now! Weee!" oh and "I get an update button!".

Never were you promised entrance into anything but open and member's only challenges. Meaning they can add as many new challenges as they want and you would still be getting exactly what you paid for if they offer one open and one member challenge every week.

Crikey, they could even cancel the open challenges and you'd still have no chance of getting a refund.

I think it sucks, because Impressionism is such an interesting subject that we all should be able to study it and show our best go at it. O yeah, you can submit to your portfolio, but that ain't as much fun as having it reviewed in a challenge.

Hahahaha I love the Princess Bride!
By the way....WAHHHHH!! Follow the GOLDEN RULES to winning a ribbon and go DO IT! Win some ribbons and stop bawling. Sheesh!
Everyone thinks they are OWED something. I see it in healthcare all the time. "I don't have as much money as you, but I don't want to work for my GED, or college degree to get a better job (or even A job). YOU OWE ME!" Get over it! Work to get the perks.
Maybe this is a start to moving towards a "experience" based system...ever thjnk of that? COOL!

Oh great! You just had to think of the ONE way to get me to submit to each and every challenge. I'm DOOMED!

If your not a member but have won enough ribbons - can u compete - if not, why?

ps. Im far from winning any ribbons but just incase :p
11/01/2004 02:15:10 AM · #41
Personally I think its great... My first goal is to actually take some good photos, then it would be great to have another goal to aspire to.

11/01/2004 02:37:30 AM · #42
i don't get all the complaining. all the non ribbon holders already get 2 challenges a week (if you're a member). if you've got an awesome pic that doesnt fit the challenge that you wanna show, just post it.
11/01/2004 03:12:13 AM · #43
I think this might have been better if they had run it as a basic editing Master's challenge.

That would contrast nicely with the one a couple of months ago at least.
11/01/2004 04:00:15 AM · #44
I think that everyone needs to stop taking the Master's Challenges personally and just enjoy the photography.

I remained quiet during the 1st one. Now I refuse to. Here's the agreement:

Description of Member Service. DPChallenge.com offers a fee-based member service that provides premium features that are not available in its standard Registered User Service. As a Member, you will be entitled to exclusive benefits only available to Members, including special Member-only challenges and the ability to maintain a Print Store.

Perhaps you should change it to read...

DPChallenge.com offers a fee-based member service that provides semi-premium features that are not available in its standard Registered User Service. As a Member, you will be entitled to *some* benefits only available to Members, including *some* Member-only challenges and the ability to maintain a Print Store. Also, Member's who do not win at least 3 ribbons cannot compete in Master's Challenges.

So basically, I'm paying $25/yr for DPC to sponsor challenges that only cater to the best. Shouldn't *they* be paying an extra fee to access these contests the same way *we* paid a special fee to access Member's challenges?

Isn't winning ribbons enough of a reward? Do they really need a whole bloody challenge devoted to them?

You know? Other sites give prizes, usually equipment or other such things. Here there's only a ribbon on a screen. As one of those people with 3 ribbons, I feel like I earned the right to compete in those challenges, and to me, that's better than knowing I bought it.

oooh sour grapes.

Get over it, it's just one challenge you can't enter.

Maybe use your anger in a more constructive way and try to get a ribbon so you can compete next time? That's what I would do rather than spend my time complaining.

11/01/2004 05:20:44 AM · #48
I think this conversation is rediculous actually... although i guess people will think what i am saying is ridiculous (i know i need to learn how to spell).

We are still getting our regular challenges.... so we are in now way getting ANYTHING less. I think it is a GREAT thing to work towards. I wish I had enough ribons to participate... i don't, but i will work towards it, because i think it is a fun, great idea.
