A month-long voting period won't happen.
Two weeks might, at least as an experiment.

Please keep it to a week, I can't stand the idea of clicking the update button on a pic for more than one week

Seriously I vote for keeping it like it is 1 week. Some might get injuried after 2 weeks of "update" clicking not to mention what will the poor mouse go through. 1 week is enough, if for some reason someone can't afford the time to vote all that's ok, only 20% is required.

I second the '1 week' vote.

Haven't you guys seen Fiddler on the Roof? Change is bad! Tradition is good!
Another vote for 1 week.

I actually would prefer the one week voting period.
However I do sympothize with those on dial up, who would like to vote on every entry, and cant because of the massive number of photos.
So, either way is good with me. |

Actually I'd like to see 10 days voting.
That way the completion day is different to the other 2 challenges and that is when a lot of the votes could be made.

Oh, the irony. We're voting on voting.
I think 10 days would be good as well. It's more than a week but less than two. A happy medium. Afterall, we do have many more entries and were given the entire month to shoot. Do you want your "best" October shot to be speed voted? I don't.

How about one day per every 25 entries or some ridiculous number like that? If it's 400 entries, you have 16 days to vote and if it's 100 entries, you only have 4 :)

Experience tells that, as a general rule, people will take whatever amount of time given to do a particular task. Give them a week and most will wait until Saturday to finish by Sunday. Give them two weeks and most will wait till the second Saturday to finish by Sunday. I'm sure you got the point. People tend to fill the void of time given. Remember your school days?
P.S. - with that said it seems clear that the larger the group of entries the less ability we have to comment on all entries. But that happens now with every larger challenge. I normally only get a chance to comment on 20% of so and try to spread them out to all scores.

Democracy rears its head again ... an advantage to a ten-day (or how about eleven?) voting period is that the voting will finish and the winners posted on a day other than one on which another challenge also finishes. Having two posted on the same day dilutes the excitement (and post-challenge comments) of both. |

As far as viewing images, a tip for those on dial-up is to use more than one window for those with IE6 or open more than one tab (Firefox). That way, while I am viewing and critiquing a photo, another one is openiong in another tab. This helps me speed up the viewing process because I rarely wait for an image to load. Sometimes, if I have a really good connectionb, I even open three tabs. I hope someone finds this helpful:) |

Just be careful with this setup as you could lose your comment/vote if the same image shows up in more than one window.

keep the voting open until everyone entered has voted on every photo
after 30 days DQ those who have not voted 100% and tab the results of the vote

Nope, I don't think that will work. I run dual monitors, and once tried voting that way, once on each monitor. I'd vote on an image in one window and later found it came up on the other. In some instances I voted and when I went back later found no vote for a particular image registered at all.

Just to let you know, I actually vote this way every challenege. I use the Firefox browser and open up different tabs. When the problem occurs that you stated, I click back out to the home page, back into the voting and keep going. |

Way to let only a small fraction of members even have a say. 24 hours would have at least given a chance to people from all over the globe.
