Can anyone suggest a good and reasonably priced teleconverter for these sony cameras? I have read that the sony brand is not real great, and wondered about some of the generic brands that are sold. I was used to a 10x optical zoom on my last two cameras, and do a lot of wildlife photography and really need the extended zoom. thanks, in advance,

I have the sony Teleconverter and its fairly decent at max optical zoom, if you go into digital zoom it does start to get a little grainy.
this is a shot of the moon at full 5MP resolution, full digital zoom, and with the sony teleconverter.
Some really like the Olympus B300, which can be hard to find since they are not made anymore.
Also Raynox makes some that people like as well.

not advocating one brand over the other, but raynox has a page showing the lenses and sample images with and without each add-on lens.

I have the Raynox and am happy with it. 'New Years from the Needle' was taken with it. I should also note that I cropped this photo down and this isn't a full frame image. It's important to note that you will get less chromatic distortion when the aperture is between F5.6 and F8.

thanks for the suggestions. That moon shot is awesome. Wish I had my camera for this weekend's full moon.. it's on the way, though.

Stay away from that lens.....and that shop.....the lens is poor quality and the shop is one of those shady gray market shops

Well, I ordered this one that is supposed to be a seven element lens, and it wasn't expensive so if it doesn't do well I won't have too much money gone. Has anyone tried this one? It doesn't mention a brand.

F-717 F-707 Telephoto Lens on eBay
Not sure about the brand but I might buy it, if not happy, I could easily resell it on eBay. |
