I have no idea what went wrong! I'm hoping it'll manage to break 5 at this rate (it probably won't)

I think the average on this challenge will not be high because of the fatigue from the last challenge. Also there are a lot of photographs with distractions. I thought my entry would be original and to my surprise it was not so I will suffer + I was having fun with my photo. IMO a lot of common communication that is just average and several pictures that stepped way out of the box. So donĂ¢€™t be surprised if you see a lower than average blue this time.

Actually I just went thru and gave 60 comments and 100 scores and I gotta say for the most part, the pictures were less creative, less well-shot and generally more displeasing than I thought they would be.

Or maybe Masters spoiled me. :)

I agree. While there are many good shots, not many stand out from the crowd. This one is filled with, understandibly, many shots of the same things. It becomes very hard to compare and judge properly when so many are alike.

Feeling good about the score thus far but, as it's been said, there's still a lot of voting to go. Besides, voting seems really fickle. If I shoot something intentionally in soft focus, people seem to score it lower because it isn't in focus - at least that's what I gather from the comments. Too bad we can't but a disclaimer on our challenge photos: "Yes! I did mean for this to be soft focus!" Ahem... I'm done complaining now. :-)

It would be cool if we could see the "Photographer's Comments" under each photo. That way we could give our view of our image.. I'm sure there are obvious reasons this is not done.. but it would be nice. I get the "this is out of focus" comments, and I'm thinking, YES, I Know! It was intentional! hehehe

By the way, what's the "wish lists" counter for?

IMHO, and I believe site rules, you should not discuss in a forum something about your photo which helps people identify it.

Hmmm, I thought this would be a pretty good entry. My last few challenges haven't been so good. I guess I will have to readjust my perspective.

The response to my communication photo is really disapointing, as is my defining feature. On the Wildlife submission, I was reaching, and I knew it. I just really liked the picture, and enjoy participating in the site. But the people saying they don't get the association with Communication have me baffled. I'm looking at the mid 4's right now.

Then with my Defining Feature piece, I'm getting people complaining about the very essence of the piece. The complaints seem to be answered by the name and purpose of the photo.

Have a look at my wildlife submission, it scored horribly, and I completely understand. I wasn't trying to loosen the interpretation of the challenge, but I see how I did, especially when compared to the other submissions. I think these others are being judged too harshly as people are unable, or unwilling to see the meaning of communication in a picture that isn't of a phone, or a couple of cans and a string.

My entry is not one of those obvious things and I doubt there is anything similar to it. Yet my score isn't too bad (for me) currently at 5.33.

I've been away from the site for a while, got a little frustrated with my equipment (or lack thereof) and my results...but the sabatical didn't pay off... my score is dropping like a stone!

also, I just breifly looked at the thumbs, and I swear if I see any more phones ill cry. I personally will be voting phones down because, well, it's not very original or creative. Thats just me though. Creativity/Originality plays a large role for me in voting.
10/13/2004 09:13:48 PM · #50
Judging from all the scores posted, I could very well hit the top 10 with my 5.5...lol
And to think I jumped for joy at my first vote..a 9 (knew that wouldn't last ;)
By 30 votes it was 6...low 5.44 by 93 & bounced back.
